Overview
The true purpose of high school activity
programs is to educate and inspire lifelong
values. Derogatory and demeaning cheers
or conduct do not encourage a positive
environment for students to participate in.
Acceptable Behavior
 Show respect during the nation anthem
and flag presentation.
 Cheer for your team. Positive school
spirit=positive climate.
 Respect the game and the participants
(including the other team).
 Show concern for injured players.
Acceptable Behavior
 Accept all decisions of the officials.
 Treat the contest as a game not a war
 Be gracious in defeat
Unacceptable Behavior
 Cheers directed against your opponent –
cheers to humiliate or degrade an individual
or group.
 Using profanity, displaying anger towards
opposing team or officials/judges.
 Taunting or name-calling.
 Treating the opponent as the enemy;
blaming a loss on officials, coaches, or
players.
Unacceptable Items
 No Air horns, sirens or other
horns/vuvuzelas
 No banners on wall except welcome sign
or corporate sponsors.
 No hand held signs of any kind.
Unacceptable Items
 No confetti, shredded paper, or
flour/mixtures
 No banners for teams to run through
 No laser light/pointers
 No whistles
