Daniel Duke (817101) • “He turned round. It was his friend Syme, who worked in the Research Department. Perhaps 'friend' was not exactly the right word. You did not have friends nowadays, you had comrades: but there were some comrades whose society was pleasanter than that of others.” • (from the Dystopian novel '1984' written by George Orwell) Daniel Duke (817101) TARGET SOCIOGRAM (Northway 1940) Types of relationship: Reciprocal A <-> B Unilateral A -> B Indifference A B Uneven A -> B A <…B Unilateral rejection A …> B Reciprocal rejection A <…> B -> represents liking in one direction …> represents disliking in one direction Daniel Duke (817101) MSN HISTORY VISUALISATION V2.0 How many words do I use to write in each utterance? Which are the words that I use at the most? http://www.nataliarojas.com/p55/msn_history/ Daniel Duke (817101) SCHEMA – Bem(1981) “a cognitive structure, a network of associations that organizes and guides an individual's perception. A schema functions as an anticipatory structure, a readiness to search for and assimilate incoming information in schemarelevant terms.” “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face for ever.” Daniel Duke (817101) Target Audience: Anyone using internet messaging software The Output Medium: Navigable web applet, and Psychological assessment system. The Output Location: Online public system so as anyone can view risk assessments of their colleagues. The Aim: To exemplify the point that there is only so far we should go on the route to absolute security, and the globalization of information. We have to understand that privacy is a fundamental part of our lives, and can affect our social groups in a very negative way. What Will I Produce: • Part 1: Program distributed to each user which looks at the chat software they use most, creates a log of their chat, and publishes it as a txt file to an online folder! • Part 2: An online shockwave applet that looks at a selected user, and creates a map using their chat logs! This map then does a risk assessment on the user, and projects preferred online friends if required. Daniel Duke (817101) Simple Social Mapping with reports buttons for long chats Simple messenger chat map Color denotes friendship Length denotes chat duration As Duration gets beyond a certain point, then a report function is called. Daniel Duke (817101) Viewable Report Mapping now scans details and determines whether report is required Presenting details in simplified terms First stage report Lists profile of first user (and second user if held on file) Analyses profile and duration to determine: Compatibility Social Risk Assessment Daniel Duke (817101) Viewable Report 2 Looks at rating differences between the two users if both have put in data Compares ratings each user has given each other. Calculates potention risk if large difference. Daniel Duke (817101) Viewable Report 3 Looks at any previous chats the two users have had Assesses any shifts eg. Duration or rating Looks at history of chats, and looks for significant changes in the past Duration Rating Daniel Duke (817101) Viewable Report 4 Looks at other users on the database, and suggests any preferable friends Looks not only at users friends, but also at friends of friends Uses profile information in other chats, to determine whether anybody else would be preferable to chat to, and whether better social groups are out there to replace the ‘socially inept’ ones the user is currently in! Daniel Duke (817101) Present Prototypes PROGRAM AMMENDMENTS Parser Get to create a new file for each month Parses data over a set period Add user profile input Drawing Application Get report data about user Creates map with report buttons Present data onto report Daniel Duke (817101) THANKYOU!
