Welcome to the Year 2 / 3 Transition Meeting Morning Routines • Children arrive on the KS2 playground 8.45pm which is always supervised by 2/3 teachers. • Children find the Year 3 lunch trolley and place their packed lunch onto it when they arrive on the playground. • Whistle is blown promptly at 8.55pm • Children can access school via Aberdeen Way Afternoon Routines • Parents can come onto the playground to meet their children. The children will stay with their teacher until they are collected. • Children are brought out onto the playground to meet parents at the end of the day. • If they have permission to leave to meet you at a different location e.g. KS1 playground, they need to be issued with a card from the office. Children will not be allowed to travel through the school to meet you. Reading in Year 3 • Children will not be issued with Reading Diaries this year as we are adapting how we teach reading skills. • They will receive daily 30 minute reading lessons to continue to develop decoding and fluency skills. Comprehension skills will become a greater focus. • As in KS1, there is still an expectation that every child reads at least 5 times a week at home. Literacy in Year 3 Numeracy in Year 3 • • • • Guided Practice Reasoning and Problem Solving Fluency Apply Communication • Teachers are available each night on the playground for brief meetings. • Any concerns, no matter how small, please speak to the class teacher or LKS2 Phase Leader. • Notes can be sent in with your child. • Contact the office • ‘Text to parent’ service • Website • They won’t be issued with ‘home school’ log books Extra Information • P.E. kits in school at all times – labelled! • They DON’T need any writing equipment or pencil cases! • The pick ‘n’ mix topic homework expectations are the same as Year 2. Spellings are currently under review. • Named water bottles can be kept in the classrooms The Transition Process • Year 3 teachers will visit Year 2 classes this term. • Year 2 and Year 3 teachers will meet to handover all information concerning the children. • In the Autumn Term, Year 2 teachers will continue to liaise with Year 3 teachers to check the children are settled and have had a happy transition. • During the first half term, short brain breaks will take place in the afternoon to compensate for a lack of afternoon play. • Year 2 will spend some playtimes on the KS2 playground this term. Important Dates Tuesday 18th July: • Children to meet their new teacher • Open Night to visit your child’s current class and then if you wish, informally visit your child’s new classroom. Thursday 20th July: • Books passed up to new teacher • Old books to be sent home
