ST MARY’S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL APRIL
2016
Dear Parents / Carers
Welcome back after what we hope was a happy and holy Easter holiday. You will find the diary
of events for this summer term on the reverse of this newsletter. We look forward to a busy and
exciting term ahead.
Thank you for your wonderful support of our CAFOD fundraising this year. The classes are
presently undertaking their sponsored events and monies for this and boxes can be sent in
until Friday 29th April. Look out for details of our final total in next month’s newsletter.
As you will have noticed, our building work is moving ahead at some pace. Most of the work has been
completed but it will still be some weeks before the whole project can be signed off. Thank you for
your continued patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
As the weather turns warmer the pupils may come to school in their summer uniform. This is –
Summer Uniform:

Boys
Grey trousers/shorts
Pale blue and white checked dress
White polo shirt
White socks

black shoes/suitable enclosed sandals

Please note: Please remember that jewellery, nail varnish and ‘fashion’ hair cuts are not part of our school
uniform at any time of the year.
We are continuing to monitor attendance and punctuality very closely as both have a big impact on
the children’s learning and report this to governors. Attendance - 95% is the minimum expectation for
attendance for individual children and classes. The results for spring term were –

Congratulations to Heidi El-Qasem in Year 1 who took part in a Taekwondo competition during the Easter
holiday. There were lots of clubs competing and Heidi won gold for her excellent sparring skills. Well done
indeed, Heidi! Do let us know if your child would like to share an accomplishment from outside school
with us. We really enjoy sharing their special achievements with everyone.

Congratulations also to Janet Duddle, Aaron Tabor and Ellie White in Year 4 who beat off all
competition from across the North West to come 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the regional DecorateaDuck competition. We extend congratulations as well to Matthew Reed and Macius Moczynski from
Year 6 who were commissioned as pupil chaplains at mass yesterday. We thank the boys for taking on
this most important role and to their families for their support.
Last but not least congratulations to our football and netball teams who continue to represent the
