What is it that makes some gardens particularly pleasing to the eye and such inspirational
places to visit? This series of lectures will put three famous gardens in the UK under the
spotlight alongside other well-known gardens to decipher just why their designs work so
well, and translate different concepts and aspects.
This series of lectures was first run in 2016 at RHS Garden Wisley and back by popular demand.
Design Secrets Revealed – Sussex Prairie Garden
068A 23rd January 2017
In this first evening of the season Andrew Fisher Tomlin will place the spotlight on the inspiring Sussex
Prairie Garden, where evocative naturalistic planting with innovative combinations sparks
exploration and adventure. He will examine the theory behind prairie garden planting with a look
at other projects such as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, that are also easily accessible before
looking in depth at the structural and planting design of this modern garden.
Design Secrets Revealed – Bury Court
068B 27th February 2017
In this lecture Andrew Wilson delves deep to reveal the secrets behind the captivating design of
Bury Court Gardens. We will contrast the work of designer Piet Oudolf, pioneer of the New Perennial
Movement with the minimalist planting schemes of Christopher Bradley-Hole, with plenty of
inspiration and ideas for you to take away.
Design Secrets Revealed – Serge Hill Garden
068C 20th March 2017
Stunning sweeps of naturalistic planting, wildflower and exotic meadows make Serge Hill Garden a
truly breathtaking space. Join Andrew Wilson as he explores the success of award-winning
landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith’s design and consider how to recreate elements of the
beauty in your own gardens.
