STRAKE JESUIT COLLEGE PREPARATORY
MISSION STATEMENT
To assist young men in their formation as leaders and as Men for Others
through a program of rigorous college preparation in the tradition of the
Society of Jesus.
Strake Jesuit is a Catholic, four-year college preparatory school for
young men grades 9-12.The school was founded in 1960 by the New
Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus, a religious order of priests and
brothers also known as the Jesuits. The Jesuits bring over four and half
centuries of tradition and commitment to academic excellence.
Located in southwest Houston, the school physically resembles a small
college with its various buildings spread around its forty-four acre
campus. This provides the school community with numerous outdoor
grassy spaces and shaded areas for gathering and their
personal enjoyment.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Strake Jesuit Basketball program has a history of building successful
teams. The mission of the basketball program involves the development
of players on and off the basketball floor. Players are committed to
service to the community and to each other. Coaches strive to teach a
TEAM FIRST mentality among all the players in the program.
The basketball program has five teams, including a Varsity, two Junior
Varsity teams, and two Freshman teams. There are 65-70 student athletes
in the program during the season, including student managers.
The basketball schedule consists of non-district games, tournaments and
UIL competition in 19-6A. The Varsity team will usually participate in
an out of town tournament once during the season.

HEAD COACH: Dominic Amorosa
BA, University of Notre Dame, 1996
MA, University of Portland, 1998
Coach Amorosa begins his 5th season at Strake Jesuit, and his tenth season as a Head
Basketball Coach.
He believes that players who are willing to sacrifice for their teammates can do great
things on and off the basketball court. He was previously head coach at Kingwood Park,
assistant coach at Kingwood High School and St. Pius X.
He is married to Keri, and father to Jackson (11), Kaydee (9) and Sorin (5). His children
love spending time around the basketball program, and he prides himself on building a
sense of family among players, coaches, and parents.
In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, golf, jogging, and reading books. In addition to his
Head Basketball duties, he is a member of the Social Studies Department.
ASST. COACH: Ray Marshall
BA, University of Houston, 1991
Coach Marshall begins his 16th year on the coaching staff at Strake Jesuit and
29th year coaching high school basketball. He works in the Strake Jesuit
Development Office.
He has been a Head High School Coach, an assistant in the WNBA, and served
several head coaches as an Assistant Varsity Coach over the years.
He is married to Toni, and father to Amber (10) and Kaitlyn (3).
ASST. COACH: Jeff Carroll
B.S., Houston Baptist University, 2002
Coach Carroll begins his 3rd year at Strake Jesuit and his 13th year teaching and
coaching. In addition to coaching basketball, he assists with the football team, and
teaches personal finance and accounting in the Social Studies department. Carroll is
from nearby League City, TX, and attended Houston Baptist University, where he
lettered three years in basketball. He has previously taught and coached at George
Bush High School and Clear Creek High School. He was formerly the Head
Basketball Coach at Clear Creek.
Jeffrey and his wife, Erica, have been married for 14 years. They have four children:
Jaydon (12), Jordan (10), Jacey (7) and Jonathan (6).
ASST COACH: TOM BEVERICK '07
BA, Texas A&M University, 2011
Coach Beverick graduated from Strake Jesuit in 2007 and went on to earn a
Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas A&M University. He returned to Jesuit to
join the Alumni Service Corps (ASC) for the 2012-2013 school year, teaching
English I and coaching Basketball, Football, and Lacrosse. Tom has served as the
Director of Admissions since 2013 and enters his fifth year as a basketball coach at
Jesuit.
He is married to Genevieve.
ASST. COACH: MICHAEL BLANK
B.S. Concordia University, 2001
Coach Blank begins his 3rd year at Strake Jesuit, and 14th year of coaching
basketball. Prior to SJ, he coached at Yoakum and Needville HS. At Needville,
his teams made two regional tournaments. He had the amazing opportunity to
coach 10 seasons with his father, who accumulated over 900 wins in 40+ years
as a Head coach.
In addition to his basketball duties, he coaches the Varsity FB team's defense,
and serves as the Assistant Dean of Students.
He is married to Mendy Blank who is the daughter of former Major League
Pitcher Dale Murray. His children, Jaedyn (7) and Camden (5), love being a
part of the SJ community.
ASST. COACH: DAN MARTINEZ
B.S. Loyola Marymount University, 1984
PhD UW-Madison, 1993
Coach Martinez begins his 4th year as an assistant coach at Strake Jesuit,
and he is part of the Science Department Faculty. Previously, Coach
Martinez spent 17 years at the University of Houston as an Associate
Professor in Biology/ Biochemistry, Biomedical & Mechanical
Engineering. Dan’s Wife, Dr. Laura Gutierrez is currently a Professor at
the University of Houston.
They have two children attending St. Michael Catholic School,
Andy (13) and Joaquin (10).
ASST. COACH: QUINN BASKIN
USNA, 1999
Coach Baskin begins his 2nd year at Strake Jesuit. He graduated from
Waxahachie High School and attended the U.S. Naval Academy
where he majored in Physics and was a four year manager in the
basketball program. After graduation he served 12 years in the Navy
as a C-2 pilot in San Diego, CA and then a flight instructor in Corpus
Christi, TX. He currently teaches physics and chemistry.
He is married to Stephanie.

STRAKE JESUIT BASKETBALL
2016-17
OUTLOOK
The Strake Jesuit Crusaders are looking forward to the 2016-17 season. Head Coach
Dominic Amorosa begins his fifth season at Jesuit, and the Crusaders are looking to
extend their winning ways and compete for a 19-5A District title.
There are eight returning letterman to the squad, including 2nd Team All District
players Jordan Pride, '17 and William Brueggeman '17. Pride averaged 7ppg and
3assts, while Brueggeman scored 11ppg as a first year starter. Other senior returning
letterman includes Mike Donlon '17, Stephen Donnell '17, Ryan Lundvall '17, Colin
Minx '17, and Bryce Piper '17. Juniors Andrew Malveaux and James Michael
Drexler, along with Sophomores Jordan Johnson, Liam Dillon, and Thomas Gordon
will contribute as well.
The 2016-17 schedule includes trips to San Antonio to play in the North East ISD
Tournament, and to Sacramento over Christmas break to play in the Hope Elite
Classic. For the third straight year, the team will compete in the Spring Branch ISD
Tournament during the first weekend of December.
District 19-6A play begins on December 20th with a home game against the Morton
Ranch Mavericks.
