Coaching Commission Protocols
Application requirements for National Coaching positions:
All Coaches contracts have expired after IWBF Qualification games and U/22 World Cup and the following
positions are now available
Senior National Team
Head Coach
Assistant Coach
Technical analyst
Woman National Team
Head Coach
Assistant Coach
U22 National Team
Head Coach
Assistant Coach
Protocols and Conditions
LENGTH OF APPOINTMENT:
National Team: The appointment will be until the 2012 Paralympics games.
Womens Team: The appointment will be until the 2012 Paralympics Games.
U/22: The appointment will be until the 2013 Junior World Cup.
PERFORMANCE REVIEWS:
Program and performance evaluations will be handled between the coach and the Chairman of the
Coaching Commission or his\her designate on an annual basis.
Event, annual player evaluations, and ongoing feedback will be used as a component of the performance
evaluation.

FUNCTIONS:
In accordance with the policies and procedures of WBSA the primary functions of the national coach are
as follows:
Coach the National Team.
Plan, develop, and coordinate the National Team program in conjunction with the High Performance
Director and the Chairman of the Coaching Commission in line with WBSA’s vision.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The National Coach is accountable to the High Performance Director through the Coaching Commission,
but his/her performance is evaluated by the Board of Directors
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning & Administration:
In conjunction with the High Performance Director and the Coaching Commission with approval from
the Board:
Establish a biennial plan for the National Team.
Establish and manage goals and objectives of the program on an annual basis.
Develop and prepare competition schedules, player monitoring plans, player skill norms, player fitness
norms, player mental training norms, and player evaluations.
Assist in the selection, management, and annual performance review of basketball staff, ie: assistant
coaches, team manager, therapist, and any other persons selected specifically to assist with the teams.
Plan schedule for team training camps.
Act as a member of the Coaching Commission.
Competitions & Training Camps
Identify and help select athletes for the National Team in conjunction with the coaching commission.
Draw up training programs for all National camps.
Provide necessary information for organization of training camps to HP Director.
Run all training camps as per camp program
Be responsible for all on court behaviour and discipline of players
Reporting
Submit an annual report of the National Team activities for the Annual General Meeting of the CWBA
through the High Performance Director.
Submit a summary report to the High Performance at the conclusion of each competition or event
attended in an official capacity (within 10 days). When competitions are scheduled within two weeks of
each other, or when the team does not return to South Africa between competitions, the coach may
include two or more competitions in one report. This should be agreed upon by the Coach and the
Director High Performance prior to the beginning of the annual plan\schedule.

Communication & Liaison
Maintain regular written correspondence with national team members.
Ensure that each athlete is aware of the time and place of the events both in training and during actual
competition.
Liaise with the other National team coaches.
Copy all correspondence related to the National Team to WBSA HP Director.
Make requests for equipment, etc., to the HP Director.
Technical
Demonstrate sound knowledge of the current rules and regulations.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the classification system.
Know the correct protest procedures.
Monitor the necessary training programs of National Team members.
Record and chart individual performances as required. Make these performance records available to
the High Performance Director and coaching commission when required to do so.
Prepare a list of candidates for Assistant Coaches, add those provided by the Coaching Commission and
rank them in order of his\her preference for involvement in the national team program. The Coaching
Commission will make the final recommendation to the Board of directors for approval. Complete a
performance review at least annually on the assistant coaches and submit them to the High
Performance Committee.
The Head Coach shall be committed to the WBSA process with Level III or equivalencies at the
discretion of the High Performance Commission and a commitment to the completion of Level IV and V
when available.
Representation & Media Correspondence
Act as an ambassador for South Africa on technical matters relating to the National Team.
Represent WBSA where possible at National Championships, coaching seminars, and other promotional
functions upon reasonable request.
Act at all times in a manner that will enhance the reputation, image, character and presence of WBSA
and the team\s.
Rumination
Rumination will be on an ad hoc basis and when funds are available.
Other
Perform other duties as mutually agreed upon between the Board and the said coach which may not be
included in the above mentioned protocols

Note:
The signing of this document is taken as acceptance of the rules and regulations and protocols of the
Coaching Commission and WBSA Constitution.
