Standards of Behavior in Library
In order to have the best learning and social environment in
Library class we will:
Respect others by being kind in action and words.
 Use inside voices
 Walk, don’t run
 Raise hand to speak, and listen to who is speaking
 Return library books on time
 Be still and quiet when listening to a story
Respect property
 Take good care of materials (books, pencils, crayons,
clipboards, audiobooks) borrowed from the library
 Take good care of your library cards
 Keep the shelves neat and in good order by using your
library tool
 Take good care of tables and chairs in the library
 Use computers responsibly for looking up books
Demonstrate cooperative behavior
 Work together fairly and include all members in group
work
 Follow directions the first time given
 Recommend good books you have read to others
Demonstrate good manners
 Say “please” and “thank you”
 Push in your chair when getting up from your table
 Wait patiently and quietly in line when checking out books
 Say “excuse me” in order to get someone’s attention if
they are in your way or you need help from them
Fulfilling these standards can earn your class blue slips,
monthly awards and celebrations!

Take a time out (at table nearest Story Area)
Fill out a “Time to Think” sheet in time-out. “Time to
Think” sheet must be taken home, signed by a parent,
and returned to the Librarian the following school day.

Find and check out books that are
“just right” for your mind and your
heart.
Share your thoughts and ideas.
Ask questions! (Have an inquisitive
mind.)
Be adventurous in your reading
choices. (Don’t be afraid to try new
things.)
