Professional Development Minute
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Monday, August 29 – Staff Meeting: We will be
meeting in room 202 and begin work on our new
action plan with an added focus on EL instruction.
2. Tuesday, August 30 – Our provider, The English
Learner Group, will be coming in the morning
assisting our campus to support us in our efforts to
increase student achievement in the English
Learner population at Sequoia. The visit will include
going to classrooms where English learners are
present.
3. Tuesday, August 30 – Back to School Night from
5:15-7pm. There will be a general parent meeting
first followed by classroom visits at 5:45. Please
have sign-in sheets in the back of your rooms. The
night will end promptly at 7pm. More information will
be provided at our staff meeting.
4. Intramural noon time games will begin on Tuesday,
August 30. We will play weekly for four weeks on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday. Please
encourage student participation.
INTEGRATED ELD IN CONTENT AREAS
Integrated ELD refers to ELD throughout the day and across
the disciplines. Content teachers use their content standards
and ELD standards with their focal ELA standards to support
English leaners’ linguistic and academic achievement.

and across the disciplines:
 Are interactive and engaging, meaningful and relevant,
and intellectually rich and challenging
 Are appropriately scaffolded in order to provide strategic
support that moves learners toward independence
