Thank You
‘Sponsor a Star’ on our Christmas tree raised £155 for SANDS. Thank you so much
for your generosity and support.
The Christmas Enterprise Day was really successful and raised £600. The pupils and
staff worked really hard to plan, make and sell a wide variety of Christmas items and
activities. As part of Enterprise Education, the money raised will be split amongst
each class equally so that they can decide what resources they would like to buy for
their class. We will let you know in our next newsletter what they pupils decided.
Many thanks for all the donations for our Rag Bag collection. A huge amount of
clothes were donated and this was turned into £160 for school funds.
Pupil Council News
We have started the term with a lot to do! We are finding out opinions about
Homework to help write a new school policy. We are introducing ‘Fruity Friday’ to
help encourage pupils and staff to eat more fruit at school. To promote this we will
be presenting at assemblies and to the Parent Council. Now that we are settled in our
new school, every class is involved in looking at our School Values and Golden Rules.
We hope to work together to update them and display them throughout the school.
Nursery News
Welcome Mrs Margaret Cairns our new Team Leader and the children who have
started this week to our Nursery. The children have been busy ‘voting’ and have
decided that the new Topic focus this month will be ‘Pets & Animals’. Please have a
look at and comment in our new Floor Books which you will find on the table just
inside the Playroom. Could we please remind you that children should not bring toys
from home into Nursery as we do not want them to get lost or broken. It’s very cold
outside and we would ask that all children have warm winter jackets and shoes for
going outside. Let’s hope we have just a little snow to build a snowman with!! Our
wonderful new nursery uniform is now available to order from www.logoxpresschoolwear.co.uk.
Parent Council News
Outdoor toys were handed over at pupil assemblies and the weather obliged (for a
short time) to let the children go out and play with them!
Parent Council members helped with nativity backdrops and organised a few
Christmas surprises.
We are hoping to secure some bag packing slots at local shops to help raise some
funds and would like to run a Spring Fair in March – if you can spare some time to
help at either of these events then please talk to any member of the Parent Council
or school staff to volunteer.
Other
Please remember that St Bride’s Primary and Nursery are ‘nut free’ environments
and no items of food should be brought into school if they contain nuts. We greatly
appreciate your help.
Head lice- During this term and others, we wish to keep St. Bride’s a ‘Headlice Free
Zone’. You can help by ~
1.Checking your child’s head on a regular basis (at least once a week)
2.If your child has headlice – do not send your child to school
3.Treat the hair – the treatment can be obtained from the doctor or chemist free of
charge
4.Once the hair has been treated your child can return to school
Following these steps will ensure that St. Bride’s will always be a ‘Head lice Free
Zone’.
Visitors/Outings
Pupils in P4 and P5 will be attending a concert, as part of the Celtic Connections
Music Festival, on Wednesday 20th January.
All children in P1, P2 and P3 will also be attending a Celtic Connections concert on
Wednesday 27th January. We are hoping to receive a donation of £2 for each child
to help cover the cost of the buses. We will also be looking for some parent
volunteers to come with us on these trips. This is a wonderful opportunity for
children to join in the celebration of Celtic music.
Dance Festival- Two groups of Highland Dancers from St.Bride’s will be taking part
in a Dance Festival in Rutherglen Town Hall on 27th January. Good luck dancers !
Primary 7 pupils will be visiting Trinity High on Friday 29th January to join in the
presentations and celebration of the STEM project and to take part in activities
linked to World of Work.
Twitter
Please follow our page St.Brides.Sch.C’lang
The school website is nearly ready to be launched, but we will continue to have a
school Twitter account. We can quickly post important information/updates for
parents/carers to access. We also post regular photos of visitors, activities going on
in the school and nursery and achievements.
Easy Fundraising
Please help us collect more free donations
https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/stbridescambuslang
This is an easy way to help raise funds for the school while doing your shopping!
St.Bride’s Church
During this term, all classes will again have the opportunity to attend Friday mass at
St. Bride’s Church. A letter will go home informing you which classes will be attending
and inviting families to join us. It would be lovely if some parents/families would like
to walk from the school with the pupils. Please join us.
Friday 8th January P7b, P5, P3/4, P5/6
Friday 12th February P7a, P1a, P6, P2/3
Friday 4th March P4, P1b, P2, P3
The Feast of St Bride will be celebrated on Monday 1st February with a school Mass
for all the pupils and staff.
Eco News
Our Eco Action Plan has now been established and we have been very busy! P7 have
been active in raising awareness of wildlife and habitats and have produced their own
power points. Active games have been introduced during PE - how animals hunt &
forage.
Exciting news  Full funding has been acquired from Glasgow University to enable us
to build and sustain habitats for birds .We will also be responsible for observations
and checking feeder levels during Springtime. We are very excited about this new
project and will keep everyone updated with pictures and information on our
progress.
Parking
The situation in the car park is again causing concern, especially at 3pm. Before the
Christmas break, a member of staff was nearly hit by a car as she put rubbish into
the bins. This incident happened at 2.30pm, as people were entering the car park
early to secure a parking space before the gates had been closed. People are also still
coming in early and parking in the ‘Drop-Off’ area. This is not what this space is for
and it causes great problems for other people who are collecting children We will
continue to monitor the situation over the next few weeks, report to the Pupil Council
and Parent Council and decide our next steps. Please continue to support us in making
the car park a much safer place for your children, before and after school.
School and Nursery Uniforms
We have a contract for our school and nursery uniforms with logoXpres. You can
log into www.logoxpres-schoolwear.co.uk , find our school and nursery, register and
make your uniform selection. The new Nursery polo shirt and sweat shirt look great.
We have posted pictures on our Twitter page of our nursery pupils wearing their new
uniforms. There are different options for delivery, including pick up from the school.
It is very important that all our pupils wear their uniform each day. Please ensure
that your child’s name and class are clearly written on each item of their uniform.
Health & Wellbeing
After the success of our Health Day in November we are going to continue to
promote Health & Wellbeing throughout the school. The Pupil Council are very keen
to start this by leading a ‘Healthy Snack’ initiative throughout the school.
School Bus
The school bus is a great support to many families ,however,we are concerned with
safety, behaviour and language on the bus. We would greatly appreciate your support
in reminding childen that they must stay in their seat, not remove their seatbelt until
the bus has arrived at their stop and to behave on the bus. To help ensure each
child’s safety, we have met with all the children who use the bus to discuss behaviour
and organised specific seats for each child . Staff will continue to go on the bus each
day to ensure pupil’s have put on their seatbelt. By allocating specific seats, it helps
staff and the driver see if anyone is missing and helps support positive behaviour.
We thank you for your support in this matter.
