START Leave Weston Lane Community centre and turn right uphill

START Leave Weston Lane Community centre and turn right uphill along a ginnel. Cross over St. Richard’s Road and
continue up the ginnel to St. David’s Road. At the end of the ginnel cross the road and head right following the road
along until a footpath to the left signed to Clifton marked 6 Dales Trail.
Follow along a short ginnel to a kissing gate at the end and head up the hill keeping near the edge of the field to the
left. At the top of a short rise head off slightly diagonally right to the corner of the field and a stile. Take the footpath
off to left keeping to edge of the field, go through the gate and cross a stream at the side of a large tree and head
diagonally right across the field turning left past a field corner to a gate, head towards a wood and track. Turn sharp
right just before the wood and go uphill to a gate, follow track to a gate and an enclosed lane follow this all the way
through a small hamlet (Clifton) and out to the main road. TAKE CARE CROSSING FAST MAIN ROAD.
Go over stile opposite and cross field ahead with mast on your left to a gate by a stream. Cross the stream keep wall
to your right to a stile, head towards the right of the conifer plantation and go through gatekeep planation and wall
to your left go through another gate onto a track. Keep on this track eventually turning right onto a tarmac road. This
heads down a hill, becomes a track and leads to Dob Park Packhorse Bridge and the first Checkpoint.
CHECKPOINT 1/7: DOB PARK Open 9-10am and 12.45pm to 5pm
Follow the path away from the checkpoint with the River Washburn to your right through a wood crossing two
streams and after a mile reach Timble Beck Gill. Cross the Gill turn left and shortly reach a wall corner, turn right up
the hill keeping wall to left after 200 metres go diagonally right across the field to the top right hand corner. Go
through gateway to right and turn left with wall on left and through a gate. Follow the enclosed lane to Nether
Timble Farm the track runs between farm buildings continue on the track through gates to a stile with ‘Swinsty
Reservoir’ and go right. Descend the woods to reach a path off to the left just before Swinsty Hall, it then joins
another path and you turn left again. Follow this track to Swinsty car park (there are toilets here!) Continue on
crossing a small road and follow the path down to the edge of Fewston reservoir at the bottom turn left and follow
the path along the reservoir for 2.5km to Checkpoint 2 at Fewston Car Park.
CHECKPOINT 2/6: FEWSTON RESERVOIR Open 9.45am to 4pm

until crossing a
bridge, take the
path uphill and at
the T-junction turn
right along a tarmac
road towards
Thruscross Dam,
the path goes off to
the left and up
some steps to the
left of the dam. At
the top turn right
on the road and
cross the dam, the
road turns right and
goes up hill. The Six
Dales trail goes off
into the woods
which is the safer
and advised route.
Before emerging on the road further up the hill. After passing some houses on the left the footpath goes off to the
left signed Greenhow Hill Road. Head across this large field with the wall on your left then head towards the water
tower. Just before the water tower cross a road and then keep to the left of the wall all the way down the fields
leading onto a hard track and through a farm yard to the next road at Padside Green. Cross the road and go over a
stile and keep to the right of the buildings looking for a footbridge over a stream, follow the path to a stile and then
head up the hill with the wall to your right pass through some ruined farm buildings to reach a track, cross the track
cross the next two fields to a small road, cross this and aim for the three garage doors at Hall Field House farm. Cross
the stile in the fence onto the track in front of the farm, turn right and the 20 metres later turn left between
farmhouse and barn go through the farmyard through a gate and cross a stream via the farm track. To reach a gate
go through the gate and with the wall to your left follow the field edge over 2 stiles reaching large modern farm
buildings (Woodman Wray) on the left go through a gate and on to a stile in the field corner. Straight after the stile
cross a small stream and head for the wall opposite, turn right, keeping the wall to your left and continue to the end
of the field to a gate, Grange Farm is ahead cross two stiles there is a converted chapel to the left follow the farm
track to road at Dyke Lane Head farm and turn left going uphill. The next checkpoint is just down a side road to the
right after about 400 metres.
CHECKPOINT 3/5: HAYSHAW Open 10.30am to 3.30pm
Leaving the Checkpoint cross a stile and head diagonally uphill across the field to a stile in far wall continue across
next field in same direction to next stile. Head towards the buildings at Hill Top emerging on a track and turn left
through a gate continuing on the track for 800 metres. Then 100 metres before a house go through a gate in the wall
on the right. Cross the field diagonally left go through a gap in the wall and follow a path passing a wall corner. Keep
the wall on your left and cross a stile in the wall. Follow the rough ground and path and head downwards to
Guisecliff Wood. Follow the clear track through the wood for 600 metres, the follow the main path right going
downhill, continue down this windy path to a stile, over which is an enclosed path which continues downhill through
some houses to a main road, turn right and go over Glasshouses Bridge just after crossing the River Nidd turn left
and follow the footpath for about 3km to Pateley Bridge. Loook out to the right for the Halfway checkpoint in the
carpark up some steps to the right.
CHECKPOINT 4: PATELEY BRIDGE Open 11.00am to 2.30pm
Now all you have to do is remember your way back to Otley the same way as you came!
CHECKPOINT 8: WESTON LANE COMMUNITY CENTRE Open 1.30pm to 7pm
At the start you then head back down to the car park. Exit the car park and TAKE CARE CROSSING NEWALL CARR
ROAD. Head towards Otley and enter Wharfemeadows Park to your left. Keep on the path nearest the River Wharfe
at all times (So the river is to your right). Until you reach a White footbridge and cross the river, immediately after
the white bridge turn left and go under a large concrete pipe WATCH YOUR HEAD! Stay on the footpath next to the
river at all times (keeping the river to your left), until eventually a bridal path leaves to the right and goes out to a
main road. Turn left but do not cross the main road yet, eventually you will see The Blue Barn pet supplies to your
left up a slight incline. Continue and shortly after the road straightens out between factories on either side of the
road. Cross when safe to the footpath the other side. As you enter the village of Pool (a Shell petrol station is to your
left) turn right, go over a small road (Manor Gardens) and enter the Methodist Church Hall (second door) on main
road. You will not get a time until you go inside the building.
