St. Paul’s Primary school
and Nursery Class
Summary of our Standards and
Quality Report Session 2015/2016
For parents and carers
St. Paul’s Primary School and Nursery Class are pleased
to share progress made in session 2015/2016 with
parents and the wider school community. This session
our focus was on developing our outdoor learning
pathways. This has allowed us to provide planned,
purposeful learning experiences for all pupils. We have
also developed our tracking and monitoring processes
to ensure all pupils achieve their potential. The changes
and improvements we have made will help ensure our
pupils become:




Successful Learners
Confident Individuals
Effective Contributors
Responsible Citizens
Below is a summary of some of the progress made:
Improvement Priority 1:
“All learners in our school and nursery class will have
regular opportunities to engage in challenging outdoor
learning experiences”
We have worked with our partners including the park
rangers to provide a wide range of outdoor learning
experiences for our pupils. This has included working in
vertical groups which has provided opportunities for our
senior pupils to develop leadership skills. Our pupils
have been engaged in a wide range of experiences
including: working with mapping and scale, water
testing, planting, art and drama.
Our nursey staff have consulted the children and
developed outdoor learning boxes which have provided
our youngest children with opportunities to develop
problem solving skills while providing personalisation
and choice for learners.
Our learners have been actively involved in recording
their achievements in outdoor learning on our
interactive wall display.
A range of school events including:

The introduction, in term three, of the daily
mile has been well received by almost all
pupils and we are already noticing an

improvement in the enthusiasm and fitness
levels of our pupils.
An activity packed “Health week” provided
pupils with opportunities to try a wide range
of sports and healthy foods. We celebrated
our pupils success with a powerpoint
presentation for parents and certificates for all
pupils.
Our pupils have participated in a wide range of
after school clubs throughout the session and
most classes have taken part in “Sports
Festivals” organised in partnership with our
sports co-ordinator.
Our pupils have made positive links with local
businesses including the garden centre and
Jupiter Artland.
Our Primary 7 pupils had a week long outdoor
learning experience at “Stramas hOutdoor
Centre” in Oban and our Primary 6 had a two
day taster session at “Lowport Centre” in
Linlithgow.
Improvement Priority 2
“Learner’s progress will be tracked in Science and Social
Studies supporting them to set personal targets in these
areas”
Last session we developed our pathways to ensure
coverage of science and social subjects across the
school. Staff now discuss Significant aspects of
learning with pupils at the planning stage and discuss
next steps in learning with individuals .We have
worked collaboratively with cluster colleagues and
staff from St. Margaret’s Academy Science
department to develop our science reports. We
record pupil’s achievements in floorbooks and on wall
displays. We have also provided regular opportunities
for pupils to showcase their learning through our
termly topic showcases.


In our nursery class our staff have
implemented the Early Years Framework and
the Building the Ambition document.
They have continued to develop their skills in
observing and recording children’s learning
using this information to plan next steps in
learning for each child.

Our nursery staff continue to use responsive
planning with the children and record their
achievements in floor books which are
available to parents/carers.
Our Pupils and staff are very grateful for the ongoing
support of our parents/carers and the wider school
community who work in partnership with the school to
improve experiences for our learners. We have made
many improvements to our school and nursery class this
session which have helped enhance the experiences we
offer our learners.
