(Prime Area)
This term, children will think about how to look after animals and what
they need to stay alive. They will think about the feelings and emotions of
Sunny the meerkat as he travels on his journey away from home. Children
will also adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of
routine in their stride.
Communication and Language
(Prime Area)
Children will follow instructions involving several
ideas or actions. They will answer ‘how’ and ‘why’
questions about their experiences and in response to
stories or events. This term, they will continue to
listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events
and respond to what they hear with relevant
comments, questions or actions.
Literacy
(Specific Area)
This term, children will continue with weekly-guided reading sessions
where they will talk about what they have read and answer simple
questions using the text to support them. They will begin to write simple
irregular words from memory this term and will write more sentences
independently that can be read by others. Children will write simple texts
about animals they have found out about this term and help Sunny the
meerkat learn all about the different animals he meets.

Expressive Arts and Design
(Specific Area)
Children will continue to explore a range of different medias this term such as paint, chalk, play dough, junk
modelling and many more. They will build and make habitats for animals, animal masks, footprints for different
animals and create their own vet role-play corner to look after all the cuddly toy animals that visit our classroom!
They will represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.
Physical Development
(Prime Area)
Children will continue to practice their skills in balance and co
ordination this term. They will partake in more sessions of bike ability
and forest school and will continue to go swimming. Children will also
look at the movements different animals make and will think about
ways they can imitate this using different sized movements and shapes.
Children will know the importance for good health of physical exercise,
and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe.
Mathematics
(Specific Area)
This term, children will solve a range of problems that they are
interested in using multiplication and division. They will look at
doubling and even numbers and sharing between more than two
groups. Children will continue to practice their addition and
subtraction of single digit numbers. They will also begin to use the
everyday language of money, recognising coins and using them to
pay for simple amounts.
Understanding the world
(Specific Area)
This term, children will find out all about different habitats and animals all
around the world. They will look at micro-habitats for mini beasts found
around school and will discuss similarities and differences of different
habitats. They will also find out about how animals are adapted to specific
environments.
