History
• Built in 1935 on land donated by Jackson Family with understanding
that it always houses a public school
• Originally served as a High School
– Contained 8 classrooms, a cafeteria (no kitchen), stage, and
workroom
• Became an Special Education Elementary School in 1960 when Fort
Chiswell High School was built
• Became a K-3 Elementary School in 1976
– Shared Administrative, Office, and Instructional staff with Austinville
Elementary (considered one school on two campuses)
• Completely renovated and rededicated in 2002
– Addition of two classroom wings, cafeteria with kitchen, gymnasium,
library, workroom, computer lab
– Became PK-5 Elementary School with closure of Austinville campus
