STRATFORD YOUTH SOCCER MEETING February 21st, 2017 at 7.00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Agriplex Building, Stratford The following members were in attendance: Graham Bunting, Kevin Machado, Carla Vancea, Anita Dubé, Lynda Sauvé, Mike Binns, Carla Binns, Todd Steel, Frank Misuraca, Gabrielle Nemeth, Lucy Doney, Don Herlick, Mike Vancea, Tony Hunter. Regrets were received from: John DeBoeck, Carla Binns. Staff: Maureen Mitchell and Lori Misuraca The Meeting was called to order at 7.00 p.m. by Vice-President Mike Vancea Bob Walter from the Kinsmen made a presentation from his group regarding a Calendar fund-raiser. The Calendar celebrates the sesquicentennial of Canada and features pictures from Stratford’s past. They are being sold for $10.00 with $2.00 going to the Stratford Perth Museum, $5.00 to the seller (SYS), and $3.00 going to the Kinsmen. Dr. Trish Van Boeckel made a presentation to the group about concussions and the protocols in handling them. Dr. Van Boeckel will run a clinic for our coaches to provide them with appropriate guidance in handling concussions they may encounter. Dr. Van Boeckel referred SYS to www.parachutecanada.org which is a good source of information regarding concussions. Minutes of Previous Meeting – Tony Hunter Moved by Tony and seconded by Kevin that the minutes of the previous meeting as distributed be approved. The motion carried. There were no matters arising from the minutes. President’s/Vice-President’s Report – Mike Vancea A clinic will be held by Amy Crawford to provide our coaches with CPR training. $12.50 per attendee with a maximum class size of sixteen. Brendon Walkom has been appointed skills co-ordinator for travel teams. Moved By Mike Vancea and seconded by Mike Binns that $1,000.00 be spent on training equipment for the skills coach. The motion carried. In order to create a monthly calendar of events board members are requested to provide Maureen with details (what, when, etc.) of any items they have to attend to. Administrators Report – Maureen Mitchell Current registration: Indoor - 96 players; Outdoor - 208 players Classic Cup - 2 teams; Festival Cup - 2 teams; 6 on 6 - none Camp July - full day – 2; July - half day - 4 Coaches Course - Soccer for life - 11 Referee Course - Entry Level - 5; Small-sided - 7 Sponsor cheques have been coming in; we are still waiting on some, and will be following up with the sponsors to get confirmation. Travel - all teams are registered - the GU14 team wanted to play in a recreational division, but the league does not have enough teams for this division to run. They have been asked to move to the Competitive division. The 6 on 6 Tournament (June 17/18) application was denied by the district - they want more details in the rules. I will go over this and re-send. Hosting an U8 Festival was denied because of field not being appropriate size. All travel players are not yet registered. This is a problem from an insurance stand point Moved by Mike Vancea and seconded by Gaby that a $50.00 fine be levied against those travel players not registered by March 1st. The motion carried. Administrator’s Report – Lori Misuraca -lots of calls and questions about registration this past month -some inquiries about the tournaments -lots of people requesting tax receipts -some travel players are still over-paying by signing up for house league and travel -have received some good comments about our new website -dates for minor sports registration are March 8 & 22 -St. Mike’s classroom and gym have been booked for the upcoming Referee training Friday March 24 from 7-9pm -someone will need to arrange to get the key from St. Mikes and open up and close up etc. Further discussion on the referee training on March 24 – Marlene Ford has contacted all the referees. We will also contact our referees. Lori will ask Holly to provide a list of our referees with their contact information. Treasurer’s Report – Kevin Machado Moved by Kevin and seconded by Todd that the Treasurer’s report be adopted as distributed. The motion carried. Travel Report – Don Herlick/Lynda Sauvé 1. After a lot of work we have found enough players and we will have a U14 girls team this upcoming season 2. Coaches have been in touch with Linda and me about courses they will need to take. 3. Teams have gone to Dunny's for their jersey fittings. 4. The U18 boys were offered a spot in the WOYSL L3 division (they did not accept) 5. Received an email from a family billeting (exchange student)a 13 year old boy from another country looking for a team to play on. 6. There are only two coaches who have to complete the required courses. House League Report – Gabrielle Nemeth Coaches who are required to complete their Learn to Train courses will have to go to Kitchener or London A co-ordinator for the Micro programme is required. Micro Programme (4/5 years old) will run on Wednesday. They will be sponsored by Tim Hortons. Other age groups will run Monday and Wednesday. Senior ages will run Tuesday Thursday so they may be used as referees/coaches for the younger age groups. Discussion was held on awards. Mike Binns will obtain pricing and report to the board next meeting Todd Steel will co-ordinate with Gaby regarding Medical kits and coaching equipment for house League. Todd will also obtain pricing on a portable de-fibrilator to be used at the Douro Street fields. SSA up-date – Graham Bunting Field signs are being organized. Lights for field 1 will be installed later this year at a cost of $66,000.00. SSA will be funding 100% of this project. Lights on the artificial turf field will also be installed this year but, because of the soft ground, this will not be until later on in the year (June?). Referee report – Holly Deighton There is nothing new to report at this time. Lori will contact Holly and ask her to provide information for each monthly meeting. Minor Sports Council – Lucy Doney Next meeting will be March 20th. Tickets will be available for the Minor Sports Annual Banquet at that meeting. The Banquet is April 22nd. Guest speaker is Andrew Haley - Paralympic Swimmer. Our nominees for Boy and Girl Athlete are Jacob McPhee and Leah Matthews. Graham Bunting was nominated as Sports volunteer but is not eligible because he won it previously. New Business Moved by Tony and seconded by Mike Binns that paper copies of the various reports will not be printed and distributed but will be emailed to all board members. The Motion carried. Members should read the emailed reports and make notes on items for which they require further clarification.
