From the laying of the first rails, St. Marys was an important town for railway activity.
Many of the most famous locomotives in Canada either worked or traveled through
on their way to London, Toronto or traveled up from the USA.
Names like Grand
Trunk and Western, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific and American names such as
Chesapeake and Ohio and New York Central all would have been seen moving
through the Junction and St. Marys Station.
During the years of the mill in
downtown St. Marys, Canadian Pacific locomotives would have been seen revolving
on the turntable (location still can be seen today) or spending the night at the small
yard and shed.
Official Exhibition Opening 3:00 p.m. September 5th to October 7 2016
