WHAT YOU KNOW… The easy stuff… The not-so-easy stuff… Mission Values Vision Lay leadership Leadership Perception History Budget/Financial picture Strengths Services Collaborators Weaknesses Areas of growth Profile of stakeholders Overlap (employee/volunteer, organizational, etc) MISSION & VISION MISSION VISION What do we do? Snapshot of your organization somewhere in the future. How do we do it? For whom are we doing it? Provides direction for the mission and goals. What town you’re in, if you are driving a car or walking, what address you are going to Google maps, street view Do your mission and vision statements do this? Do you all have vision statements? Give some examples… MISSION GOALS : What are the broad areas you are working on STRATEGIES: How will you be getting there OBJECTIVES: What are the measurements TACTICS: What are the steps you take VISION GOALS… BOIL IT DOWN What are the 3-4 most important things you do as an organization? Most the time it boils down to: SERVICES TO STAKEHOLDER CLIENTS RAISING FUNDS FOR CURRENT AND SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS ENGAGING ACTIVE, LOYAL VOLUNTEERS Active= participates in calls to action readily and feels they are a part of your program; your successes are their successes Loyal= they not only engage at sporadic calls for action, but can be depended on for the longtime service to the organization over a period of time What are some other things you might find in your organization? EXAMPLE TotalTechOrg MISSION To build an education program to engage teens in professions that require technological skills and knowledge VISION TotalTechOrg hopes to build a solid workforce in tech jobs to attract more industry to our community and provide a wider variety of opportunities for students who choose to both stay and leave our community VALUES Innovation, Entrepreurship, Collaboration, Professionalism, and Creativity **Look for the action words** EXAMPLE TotalTechOrg BUILD ENGAGE ATTRACT PROVIDE MISSION To build an education program to engage teens in professions that require technological skills and knowledge VISION TotalTechOrg hopes to build a solid workforce in tech jobs to attract more industry to our community and provide a wider variety of opportunities for students who choose to both stay and leave our community VALUES Innovation, Entrepreurship, Collaboration, Professionalism, and Creativity What could be some goals for TotalTechOrg? SAMPLE GOALS Depending on where TotalTechOrg is on its way to its vision, these could be some samples… Increase corporate sector engagement on a regional scale Increase number of students enrolled in the program Increase the visibility of impact within region Build a tradition of volunteerism within IT departments locally and regionally Increase sustainability of program through stable fundraising efforts Etc…. GOALS Increase # of students enrolled in program Increase corporate sector engagement Increase the visibility of impact on the community Now, to get strategies… how will you go about trying to achieve these goals. Sometimes an objective will meet more than one goal. THE FINAL STEP… TACTICS OR ACTIVITIES Tactics or activities will drive the action planning for each of your strategies.
