Ideally if you can inform your captain of availability for 2 or 3 weeks in advance that would be preferable. When providing your captain with availability please note this will be for any team and not only the one you are currently in. Consequently please indicate if you are not able to make a particular time. This will make the job of selection much easier. Team listing for the following week will be available at training on a Wednesday. If you are unable to attend training you should telephone or text Geraldine Almond, Team Secretary, on 07792257816 ideally between the following times to find out when and where you are playing on the following Saturday: Tuesday: 6.00pm – 8.00pm Wednesday: 6.00pm – 8.00pm Thursday: 6.00pm – 8.00pm In an emergency Mary Moss may be contacted at other times. If you have a problem with your availability, you must inform a team captain as soon as possible. Travelling Expenses Travelling expenses will be payable to members who use their cars to take other members to away games, and to umpires, at the rate of 20p per mile. The mileage for each away game will be precaluclated. Refreshments For the 2014 – 2015 season, after-match refreshments will continue to be provided at the closely affiliated Stafford Cricket and Hockey Club, Riverway. It is the duty of the Club (and a requirement of Staffordshire Ladies Hockey League) to provide hospitality to visiting teams; it is therefore the responsibility of all playing members to remain after a match and socialise with our guests. Junior members who require transport should therefore make arrangements to be collected from the club and not from Beaconside, after home matches. Stafford Ladies Hockey Club does not condone or encourage under-age drinking, but we would like to point out to parents that the Club does attend licensed premises for the consumption of refreshments after a game. Playing Kit Players are reminded that the Club’s playing colours are Gold shirts and socks, and Navy Blue skirts or skorts. The Club’s change kit is white shirts and socks with navy blue skirts. Cycling shorts/ long pants, if worn, must be either Navy Blue or Black. Both Club and Staffordshire Ladies Hockey League Rules state that all outfield players must wear a skirt or skort; you may be excluded from a game if you do not wear the appropriate kit. Should you wish to purchase kit for the coming season then a kit list is issued with this letter, and can be downloaded from our website, www.staffordladieshc.co.uk. Donna Thurgarland, Treasurer, is in charge of all kit orders. On a safety note, please note that the league requires shin pads are worn and it is strongly advised that you wear a mouth guard. Match Cancellations If there is any doubt that matches might not be played due to adverse weather conditions, please telephone your team Captain to obtain information and/or instructions. The safety of all players is taken into consideration when determining if matches are to be cancelled, therefore please be respectful that this decision may be late in being made, however it will be taken at the earliest opportunity. Club Welfare Officer Linda Barnett continues to be our Welfare Officer, her role is to safeguard and ensure the wellbeing of our junior and young adult members. Anyone wishing to speak to either Linda in confidence should email or ring them. 50 Club / Fundraising The Club operates a 50’s club fundraising scheme where you have the opportunity to win back some cash whilst helping the club in its fundraising efforts. For a stake of only £2 a month you will be entered into a monthly draw with a chance of winning £20, £15 or £10. Sadly there are plenty of numbers vacant, so please help support your Club and have a number. If we manage to get our membership up to the full 50 then the first prize money will increase to £25. To join please complete the attached direct-debit form and return to the Treasurer. Alternatively you can pay for a full year (£24) by cheque. If you have any other ideas for fund-raising or sponsorship, please inform a Committee member. It is imperative that we get as much income from fund-raising as possible in order to keep the subscriptions and match fees at an affordable level, especially as this year we will be paying for our refreshments at the club. Rush Hockey This season Stafford Ladies will continue to work with Stafford Men’s Hockey Club to help more people enjoy hockey. To do this we will continue to take part in “Rush Hockey” It’s fast, furious and a lot of fun. Rush Hockey is a small sided hockey game for adults. It’s specifically designed for those people who love the rush of a team sport, but never find the time to commit to one. It can be played by men and women in mixed or single gender teams, indoors or outdoors and on pitches of varying sizes. Teams are 4 or 5 a side, with squads of up to 7 players. It is played with a standard hockey stick, but has unique goals and balls. The rules are very simple and the games are self umpired. Both clubs are looking at running a number of tournaments throughout the season and will need a lot of support from club members. If you are interested in playing or assisting please contact Mary Moss. Fantasy Hockey We will be looking to run another Fantasy League this year. Before the season starts a list of all players will be available for you to select your “super 11” players. Then throughout the season you will gain points for how players perform each week. This is a great way for everyone to be interested in all teams’ games and a good way to make some money for the club. Each team entry will cost £5. Each transfer will cost £1 during the transfer windows. More information will be sent out shortly. Club Website Stafford Ladies Hockey Club also has a website (see header) and we are continuing to keep this site up to date. All members are encouraged to visit the website as often as possible. Feel free to contribute any interesting items for publication, or ideas for further development through your captain or a committee member. It is intended that all teams submit match reports every week (win, lose or draw) for publication in the Newsletter and on the website. Captains will be asking different players each week to put together match report to upload to the website and to submit to the local newspaper. Fixtures Live Staffordshire League utilises Fixtures Live for controlling the league fixtures. Each week captains must text in the results which are then automatically uploaded to the site. It is important that as many members as possible register for fixtures live and keep up to date with the league tables. We encourage all members to register, if you want to please use the following link: https://www.fixtureslive.com/default.asp and select “register”. If you have any issues please let me know and I’ll help set you up. Registration Form The attached Registration Form is designed to ensure that the Club’s records are accurate and up to date for the new season. Your personal details will not be distributed (other than to Team Captains or other Club Officials or as required by England Hockey or other such representative or regulatory body) without your permission. Please note that the Club keeps members’ records on an electronic database; every effort is made to comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998. It is vital that you complete and sign the appropriate Member Registration Form and remember to include accurate contact numbers and email addresses. Return it to me as soon as possible along with your fees and I will forward any payments to the Treasurer. If you have any problems or queries please feel free to ask. I hope you all have an enjoyable and successful season. Many thanks and good luck for the coming season. Sam Bevington Honorary Secretary
