Demeter was the Greek(希臘的) goddess(女神) of harvest(豐收). She made all the plants grow

danced. Deep down below the Earth, Hades, the king of the underworld(陰間), had heard of the
pretty Persephone. Hades had everything except a queen, so he decided to do something about it.
One day when Persephone was picking flowers, Hades came out from the ground suddenly and
carried her down to the underworld. Hades made Persephone his queen and gave her lots of
elegant(優美的) clothes, but she didn’t like the cold, dark world. She became sad and silent(沉默)
and didn’t want to eat anything.
Because she lost her daughter, Demeter was so sad that she couldn’t bring life to the world.
The weather was bad, and nothing grew on the Earth; many people were sick and died. The king of
Greek gods, Zeus, didn’t like that, and sent his messenger, Hermes, to visit Hades. He told Hades to
free Persephone, and Hades agreed. Before she left his kingdom, Hades gave Persephone a piece of
fruit and she ate it.
Demeter was happy to see her daughter back, but became sad when she knew Persephone ate
Hades’ food. There was a rule in the underworld---anyone who ate Hades’ food belonged to(屬於)
his kingdom forever(永遠). But, Zeus helped her and made an agreement(協議) between Demeter
and Hades---Persephone had to stay with Hades for only four months every year.
And for the Greeks that’s why the seasons change. Every year, when Persephone went to

That stupid thing never knows your coming,
Sharp claws on your clean four feet,
There you go,
Dashing to the mouse and you shall win.
