Information for Visiting Teams
Football:
We have new facilities at Dick Bivins Stadium! Our varsity football games and some of
our sub varsity games are played at Dick Bivins Stadium. Dick Bivins Stadium was built
in 1950 and renovated in 2005. On each side of the new dressing facilities, there is a 40
player dressing room, an 80 player dressing room, an Athletic Training Room, a coaches
meeting/dressing room with a restroom/shower, and an officials dressing room with a
restroom/shower. There is an ice machine in the home side Athletic Training Room. We
do not yet have X-ray capabilities, but we are working on getting a C-arm machine that
will handle extremities. There is no water on the field, but there is a mop sink and hose
in the Athletic Training Room for you to fill coolers. If you do not have a team doctor
traveling with you, we will have an Orthopedic Doctor on the sideline who would be glad
to help you. An ambulance is on site for all Varsity football games. Stadium personnel
will be glad to assist you in transporting your equipment to the sideline with one of the
stadium's Mules. Since Varsity Football teams usually travel with a great deal of
equipment, we do not normally supply ice and water or other supplies unless your needs
are communicated and pre-arranged. Since Dick Bivins is away from the AHS campus,
every game is a road trip for us too. Click here for a map to Dick Bivins Stadium.
Photos of facilities at Dick Bivins Stadium:
Fieldturf was installed in 1998 and the playing surface making this a desirable location
for play-off games. AHS Athletic Training staff and Team Doctors recommend a flat
bottomed shoe or an turf shoe with small (1/4 inch) cleats. We do not recommend cleats
with an aggressive edge cleat and shorter inner cleats as we believe these can lock into
the playing surface. The surface plays well in wet or dry conditions and will retain heat
on sunny days.

Sub varsity games may be played at Amarillo High, Bonham Middle School or Dick
Bivins Stadium.
For games on the AHS campus, we try to be available to take your equipment to the
sidelines with the Gator when you arrive. Feel free to come to the Athletic Training
Room in the Activity Center for help or to tape if you wish. If you would like to fill
coolers at AHS, water is available at the South West corner of the track and we should
have plenty of ice to share upon your request.
Games played at Bonham Middle School (approximately one half mile South East of
AHS) are away games for us also and water is not readily available. The Athletic Trainer
on duty will be in radio contact with Student Athletic Trainers at each site and the
Athletic Training Room, and often has to cover football games at AHS and Bonham as
well as practice and occasionally a freshman volleyball game at the same time.
Soccer:

In an effort to reduce the number of hours that AISD Athletic Trainers must work, several
years ago the AISD started the practice of covering varsity soccer games with the
contract help of a Licensed Athletic Trainer. Our Student Athletic Trainers will be at the
games, but the Athletic Trainer on duty will be at the AHS campus.
Junior Varsity games may be played at Dick Bivins, Dick Bivins North (a grass field in
the facility north of Dick Bivins Stadium), AHS or another facility and will be covered by
an AHS Student Athletic Trainer and the Athletic Trainer on duty.
Baseball:
The 2003 Baseball season saw the opening of our new ballpark! Since softball needed a
field and there was no room to build one on campus, AHS now has new fields located on
the South side of Southwest Park. Click this link to view a map that will get you close to
the new Baseball field. There is a drinking fountain and water faucet in each dugout. We
supply a water cooler for the visitors, but ask that you supply cups or water bottles for
your team. Ice bags will be available from an ice machine in the concession stand. Since
this facility is off campus, please let us know if you need anything that we need to bring
to the field.

Track:
AISD track meets are held at Dick Bivins Stadium. While the track remains the same,
the rest of the facilities at the stadium were renovated in 2005. See the Football section
for a description of the new facilities. FYI: The shot put ring has been moved to the
southwest corner of the facility and discus remains in the field north of the stadium.
AISD meets will be covered by the Athletic Trainers of at least one of the AISD schools.
The Athletic Training Room on the home side will be available to your athletes, but
supplies and equipment will be limited. Only athletes receiving care will be allowed in
the Athletic Training Room. If you have special needs, please contact us and we will
pass along your request if another school is covering that particular meet. Water will be
provided near the Athletic Training Room.
