NIGHT
WEDNESDAY MAY 24TH, 6.30 PM - 7.30 PM
All students, parents and friends are invited to an exciting
celebration at Sunshine North Primary School. For the past 8
years, we have celebrated Education Week with our “Back to
School Night”.
• On this night, all current students can buy a Map to Discovery
for only $1 from the Office on the night, for their chance to
win an iPad.
• Follow the map to discover interesting and exciting activities
around the school and join in on the activity—but don’t forget
to have your map stamped by the staff member!
• Once students have 6 stamps on their map they can enter the
draw for a new iPad.
• At 7.30 we will all gather in the school hall to celebrate and to

NAPLAN Testing: Parents of students in Years 3 and 5, I would like to
thank you for the support and encouragement that you gave your child last
week as all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students sat 3 days of NAPLAN
Testing in Literacy and Numeracy. It can be a stressful time for
students, but I know that a lot of work is done at school assisting
students to understand and prepare for sitting and working through an
assessment booklet.
Well done to all the students who sat the test and all that can be asked is
that you try and do your best effort on the day, which I am sure you did.
The school, parents and students will not know the results of these tests
until September.
Lateness:
We have many children who come to school after the first bell
has rung. Please ensure that your child is at school before 9.00am so that
they are in their class prior to their lessons beginning. The first session in
class is a very important part of the school day as it helps children to get
ready for their learning causing fewer disruptions for the other students
and the teacher in the class. Students who are late each day miss up to 17
days of learning each school year.
Thank you for your support in helping us to provide the best learning
environment for your child/children.
KEN RYAN
Principal

LEARNING AND BEHAVIOURAL VALUES 2017
Our Core Values are statements of belief about attitudes, skills, and approaches to learning that we want to foster in
our students. They are intended to permeate and to be reflected by every aspect of school life, in and out of the
classroom, as well as home and community life. In addition, they can be seen as broad statements of purpose that
focus the school’s energies in curriculum, programs, and policies.
Sunshine North Primary prides itself on being a safe and happy learning environment. Every 2 weeks we
focus on a particular value that contributes to this.
SETTING GOALS:
What does it mean to be good at Setting Goals? It allows you to choose where you want to
go in your learning and what you want to achieve, then you know what you have to concentrate on
and improve. You should have a Reading Goal, a Writing Goal, a Numeracy Goal and a Personal Goal.
Good Goal Setters say:
“I know how to achieve my goal.”
“I know why my goal is important.”
“My goal is realistic and challenging.” “I know what my road blocks are in achieving my goals.”
Your goal needs to be SMART:
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Relevant, Rigorous, Realistic and Results Focused
T = Timely and Trackable
In setting goals, you should say:
“I will…………………...which will help me to………………………………..”
“I will know I have achieved this when……………………………………...by……………………………………”
How do you know if you are good at Setting Goals?:
Students who set goals will improve their learning.
You are able to see what you have done.
Increase your motivation to achieve.
You increase pride and satisfaction in your work.
Sunshine North has many wonderful enrichment programs and opportunities for student involvement
which contribute to their rich and well rounded learning experience at SNPS. The programs we offer
are: Visual Arts, Physical Education and Sports, Performing Arts, Languages (Vietnamese), the Kitchen
Garden Program, Breakfast Club, S.R.C, the Rainbow Room, and SPARKS just to name a few.
Years five and Six investigated colour, shape, space and brush techniques to create an acrylic
painting of their ideas around “Reflection”. They produced wonderful pieces of art. Here are a few
of their creations. The remainder are on display in the hall way outside the Art Studio. Mrs Hannon
has Selena’s hanging in her office.

• We’ve also been learning about Volume and Capacity this
week, as you can see by the photos . It’s been pretty messy
but lots of fun, as we experiment with pasta, sand and Unifix
