Spring 2013 Current Connections VISION2009 Thank you to all of our donors who supported our Non-Event New Year’s Eve Party. We raised a generous $14,325 and everyone who didn’t come… had a fabulous time ;-) TotalLink2 Community’s vision is to realize a fully-inclusive community that values, accepts, and respects the abilities, talents, and rights of each and every person. Getting into The Action Team Community members from all of the Northern Suburbs are gathering on a monthly basis to learn about Customized Employment on a personal level. In March, The Community Action Team (CAT) in Glenview/ Northbrook met at Caribou Coffee in Northbrook to hear about how the Discovery Process is uncovering Chris Pullman’s talents and interests. After Chris told us about himself and his strengths and abilities related to his employment seeking skills, the team brainstormed about people and places we all know about in our community that might welcome Chris as an employee. We are always welcoming more CAT team members. WIN:WIN This is a new column to highlight a job seeker and an employer who have engaged in the Customized Employment Process for a Win:Win outcome. Congratulations to Rachel Lipke and NSYMCA. Rachel was recently hired by the Northern Suburban YMCA through TotalLink2 Community’s Everyone Works! process. You will find Rachel working 3 days a week in the newly remodeled Women’s, Family Locker Rooms and Fitness Center. TotalLink2 is now a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. Better Connections. Better Community. Who’s on the Board? We would like to introduce you to one of our valuable board members and tell you about who she is and what her role is to TL2C. Linda Weinstein is officially our Outreach Liaison; however, before taking on this position, Linda has served as the consummate volunteer to the board for the past 2 years. Linda comes to TL2C in support of her friends who have children with developmental disabilities and offers her skills and community connections to the betterment of the organization. Linda has held positions of leadership on the Lynne Sage Cancer Research Organization as well as leading GBN’s parent Grad Night Committee and Athletic Boosters. Not only has she displayed her skills and talents with organizational work, Linda does volunteer work for the WPGA and is a talented golfer and holds 5 club championship titles at Twin Orchard Country Club. Linda enjoys playing golf in the summer but keeps active all year round playing tennis and paddle tennis. We are fortunate to have Linda as a friend our Outreach Coordinator. Checking in with…Daniel Eichengreen The Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel in Northbrook boasts a AAA 4 Diamond Award Winner for Quality and Service and Daniel’s new job in the culinary department is teaching him what quality and service is all about. TL2C’s Employment Specialist, Emily Raming has been coaching Daniel at his new job as he has been making the natural connections in his work place. At the same time Daniel is learning the necessary skills to be part of a working team of “ambassadors” in the kitchen and building stamina for a productive workday from 8am to 3pm three days a week. He is progressing on pace and is enjoying the perks of using the fitness center at the hotel after work hours. Outside of work, Daniel leaves time in his week for karate, baseball with NSSRA, Perk and Best Futures Cafes and social time at Our Place. With his first paycheck in hand, Daniel proudly made dinner reservations to take his parents out for BBQ Dinner. Mom and Dad were equally proud. Congratulations Daniel, job well done!
