U.S. Af-Pak Exit, India’s Stakes & Emerging Dynamics in the Region
Dr. Ashok Sharma

Dr Sharma is a Lecturer in the Political Studies Department at the University of Auckland, where he teaches
‘Great Power Relations’ and ‘International Security and Conflict’. He also holds a Fellow position at the
New Zealand-India Research Institute, Victoria University of Wellington and is a member of the Asia New
Zealand Foundation’s Track-II dialogue Registry. Prior to his appointment at the University of Auckland he
was a Visiting Academic Fellow at the University of Waikato with the Department of Political Science, and
has worked with strategic and foreign policy think-thanks in India. He did his Ph. D. in American Studies at
the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and was an Endeavour postDoctoral Fellow at Australian National University, Canberra. Dr Sharma regularly gives seminar lectures to
the NZ Defence Forces and at international conferences on international relations and security issues and has
published widely on these topics.
