Standard 1- Rights Aim - Bathurst Early Childhood Intervention Service will ensure that each child with a disability/ developmental delay and their family receives a service that promotes and respects their legal and human rights and enables them to exercise choice like everyone else in the community. Bathurst Early Childhood Intervention Service recognises the importance of choice in service delivery options available to children and their families. Information shared by families is held in the strictest confidence ensuring their right to privacy. BECIS recognises the rights of families to full disclosure of information. One important aspect is the determination by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of which family members will have access to such information. This is particularly important when legal issues within a family such as custody are involved. Families also have the right to invite persons of their choosing to be part of the planning team and decide on which professionals will be on their team. Staff are trained in child protection and are aware of their responsibilities in relation to mandatory reporting of any suspected child abuse. All abuse complaints are handled promptly, sensitively and with strict regard to confidentiality. Procedures for responding to suspected child abuse are addressed in BECIS Child Protection Policy. Bathurst Early Childhood Intervention Service recognises that under the Ombudsman Act 1974, children’s services employers must report to the NSW Ombudsman’s Office, any reportable conduct allegations and convictions made against an employee, member of staff or carer and ensure that they are investigated by the Head of Agency with the appropriate action to be taken in relation to the finding.
