Español 2 Learning Targets
Interpretive—I can recognize familiar words and
phrases when I listen and read in Spanish.
Interpersonal—I can ask and asnwer questions
on familiar topics using memorized/practiced
words and phrases in Spanish.
Presentational—I can write lists and present
information about myself and familiar topics using
memorized/practiced word and phrases.
Real World Work—I can use Spanish outside of
the classroom in real world settings.
What will I do to get there?

Class will be conducting in Spanish at least 90%
of the time. In order to learn to communicate in
Spanish, you must listen, read, write, and speak
in Spanish as much as possible.

We will do our own work. This means we will not
use online translators. Use
www.wordreference.com

The goal is to move forward in our proficiency, so
if you are absent, it is your responsibility to check
the absent binder, our class site, ask a friend, and
then Sra. What you missed, and make it up as
soon as possible.

We will have a supportive and positive learning
environment where everyone helps each other
to learn and grow.
What do I need to be successful
in Spanish class?



Large 3-ring binder (minimum 1 ½ inch), Five tab
dividers (we will label in class), Loose leaf paper,
Pen/pencil, 3-prong folder
Your own audience to use your Spanish – friend,
Twitter, Skype, Xbox, family member, someone to
talk to!!!
A positive attitude – EVERYONE can learn a
language

TEXTBOOK CARE AND RESPONSIBILITY POLICY
Textbooks are not personal property; they are loaned to the student for the year. We feel that our students
should take VERY good care of the books. Students will pay the FULL price ($68.00) of a book that is lost or
that has ripped pages, writings, and/or damaged or defaced covers.
COURSE POLICIES
TESTS AND QUIZZES
Students will be formally assessed on content standards with tests and quizzes. Quizzes will be
administered after small segments of content have been mastered. Tests will be administered after all
content in a chapter has been mastered.
HOMEWORK
Students will be informally assessed on content standards with their homework assignments.
The Homework Room policy will be enforced if a student fails to turn in homework. Homework Room meets in
Room 227, from 7:20-7:50, Tuesday through Friday. If the student has a Zero period, see teacher for other
arrangements. The policy is as follows:
 1st missed assignment—warning
 2nd and future missed assignments—Homework Room assigned before or after school
Any homework not turned by the end of the grading period will result in a zero.
MAKE-UP WORK
It is each student’s responsibility to find out what he or she missed during an absence. Upon the student’s
return to school, he or she should check the Moodlerooms calendar, check with another student to see what
was missed, as well as check the Absence Binder in class for worksheets and handouts that must be
completed. Student has two days for each day missed to turn in work for credit.
STUDENT PROGRESS
Students and parents are encouraged to use STI Home to check student progress. Parents may also contact
me via e-mail or phone to discuss student performance. Students may arrange to meet during the AO period
for extra help or to discuss any questions about grades.
OUTSIDE RESOURCES
Students must always do their own work for Spanish class. Unless otherwise directed, all work is designed
to be completed by the student alone.
Approved resources: textbook, dictionary, www.wordreference.com, notes/materials provided in class
Unapproved resources: Internet translators, friends/relatives who speak Spanish, other students’ work
STUDENT/PARENT AGREEMENT
The student should retain the syllabus and place it in the front of his or her Spanish Notebook.
On Sra. Borland’s webpage, please mark the appropriate checkbox on the Google form to indicate that the
student and parent have both read and understood all of the above-mentioned policies and procedures.
