Spring 2014 - Lehigh County Authority

Your Water Quality Report is Now Available Online!
Each year, Lehigh County Authority provides its
customers with an annual Water Quality Report
to let them know how our water quality stacks up
against established federal and state drinking
water standards. We encourage you to review this
report as it provides details about the source and
quality of the drinking water delivered to your
community in 2013.
In an effort to be more environmentally responsible, we are
making the reports available online. Please use the guide
on page 2 (back) to find the report for your area on our
website.
If you wish to have a paper copy, you can print one
directly from our website. You can also receive a
printed version by contacting us at 610-398-1444.
Attention landlords, businesses, schools and other groups!
Please share this information with tenants, students and other

You can help keep our water clean!
When you think of “water pollution,” what do you think
of? Maybe you envision a factory discharging some sort of
chemical into the environment, or an oil spill from a tanker
accident. Perhaps you are thinking of an old landfill or the
mishandling of fuel at a gas station.
These sources of pollution are definitely scary to think
about and difficult for an individual resident to control.
But did you know that the Number 1 source of water
pollution today is something as commonplace as rainwater runoff?
When it rains, water has just few options regarding where it will go. It can soak into the ground
and be absorbed by vegetation in the area. It can
soak deeper into the ground to replenish our
sources of groundwater. Or it can run off the
slopes, into the streets and into a nearby storm drain, where
it will eventually end up in a local stream.
No matter where the rainwater goes, it has the ability to
pick up pollution along the way, even from your back yard
or driveway! This pollution can end up in our precious water resources by flowing into streams and rivers, or soaking
into the soil to reach our groundwater supplies.
How you can help:
Don’t Dump: Anything you put on the ground or down a
storm drain can make its way into our groundwater or
other water sources. Contact the Lehigh County Office
of Solid Waste at 610-799-4177 to find out how to
dispose of household hazardous wastes.
Lawn Care: Use only as much fertilizer as your
lawn or garden really needs, and be sure to pick
up after your pets!
Care for Your Car: Oil spots left on driveways
and parking lots can wash away with the rain
and will end up back in the environment.
Report Spills: Call 9-1-1 if you witness accidental or
intentional dumping of unknown substances into our
environment!
All of us at LCA thank you for your efforts to keep our
water clean and flowing!
