Specialty Cereal Box Project

Specialty Cereal Box Project
The Ultimate Promotion for many athletes
is to be featured on a cereal box!
_________________________________________________________________
You are just amazing! Your athletic prowess is fantastic! Everyone wants to be you!
Your assignment will be to invent/design and sell a new type of cereal or a special
edition cereal box to promote yourself as the newest athlete in your favorite sport that
everyone is talking about!
Below are a list of activities that will be needed to finished in order for your cereal
creation to be successful.
1. Define your choice of cereal. (5)
• Will you select a current cereal already marketed or will you design a whole
new type of cereal? What is your reasoning?
2. Define your target market. (5)
• Who will be your primary customer? Will it be children, teenagers, adults, or
the elderly? These are all different target markets and will need to be
treated differently.
• Why will your cereal attract them? What will make your cereal seem
appealing to them?
• What price range will your cereal fall into? Cheap or expensive, what do
you want the customer to think of your product based on price?
3. Identify your competitors (5)
• Make a list of your competitors. This will vary due to the type of cereal you
want to market. Healthy, sugar based, cheap, boxed, bagged, etc.
• Why would a consumer want to purchase your cereal over the other types
available to them?
• Why is your product better than your competitors?
4. Advertising Campaign (25 total)
• Create a 30 second persuasive TV ad for your cereal—this can be a video
taped outside of class OR you can draw storyboard depicting what each
part of the ad would look like and what would be said and/or acted out.
The ad will need to be created with your target market in mind. Determine
the time slots (day & time) you plan on airing your commercial. What TV
programs do plan to run your commercial during? (20)
• Create a coupon for your cereal that will be ran in the Sunday edition of the
local paper. Once again think about who your target market is. If you have
created a cereal for children, do they do the grocery shopping? Probably
not, gear it toward who you think does the grocery shopping. Look at
coupons to get an idea of what type of information is located on coupons.
The coupon needs to include a price discount of your choice, an illustration,
and any details for such as quantity limited and an expiration date. (5)
5. Cereal box design (30)
• Using the form of an existing cereal box, create all six sides. Be creative here,
can you include things such as a game, a maze, ingredients, healthy tips, is
there a prize inside? You are only limited to include items that are school
appropriate.
