$4m cannabis, guns haul
SYDNEY:
Cannabis
plants worth $4 million
and a treasure trove of
guns have been seized
during a series of raids
on farms and vineyards
in southern NSW.
The bumper haul,
made by police during a
four-day operation in
Griffith, included 2000
plants, powerful rifles
with telescopic sights,
ammunition and elaborate hydroponic growing
gear.
Police also uncovered
big bags of cannabis leaf
and seeds during the
four-day
operation
which began on Monday.
Some of the plants
seized were hidden within vineyards, police say.
Great white link
SYDNEY: A great white
shark is responsible for
the attack on a young
woman north of Newcastle, a biologist who studied her life-jacket and
wounds says.
Lisa Mondy, 24, had
come off her wakeboard
when the shark struck
on Wednesday.
Ms Mondy remains in
a stable condition with
severe injuries to her
head, shoulder, neck and
left arm.

MELBOURNE: Embattled
AFL player manager Ricky
Nixon has been found to be
dishonest, unprofessional
and lacking in integrity.
An investigation by a prominent Melbourne lawyer into
Nixon’s dealings with a
17-year-old girl, who claims
he had been involved in a sexual relationship with her,
also found Nixon had a prima
facie case to answer.
The AFL agent accreditation board formally suspended
Nixon yesterday in the wake
of the report, but is yet to determine what action it will
take against him.

Nixon, 47, last week admitted himself to a rehabilitation
clinic, acknowledged he had a
substance abuse problem and
stepped down indefinitely
from player management.
The AFL agent accreditation board’s chairman Ian
Prendergast said Nixon
would be given seven days to
respond to David Galbally’s
report. The QC found Nixon
had failed to act with honesty
and integrity towards players
he represents and had failed
to give those players a complete and truthful account of
his dealings with the girl.
