Welcome to Stetson University and your official start to life as a Hatter!
FOCUS is your opportunity to discover the many resources and experiences available at Stetson. You will attend
events designed to assist you in your transition and learn more about the values at the core of the academic, and
community experiences offered at Stetson – all of which will help you define what it means to be a Hatter!
Friday, January 8, Day 1 of Orientation

Meet the Director of Academic Success, Stacy Collins, and Assistant Director for Academic Advising,
Zonovia Proctor, as they discuss what it means to be part of a community of academic excellence and
academic resources available to Stetson students.

YOUR Scholarships, Financial Aid & Work Study: LBC 108
Financial Aid can feel complex, so we want to share some important information that may help to simplify
the process as you make one of the biggest and best investments of your life.

New Student Lunch in the Commons: Carlton Union Building (CUB)
Enjoy lunch on us! Meet new students, interact with your FOCUS Leaders, and refuel for your busy
afternoon.

Taking Care of Business Around Campus. You could do any of the following:

4:30pm - 5:00pm
Get your ID Card. Meal Card office in the One Stop, Griffith Hall
Visit the Post Office, next to the Bookstore, CUB
Purchase your books and supplies for class. Bookstore, CUB
Find your Classrooms. Various Academic Buildings
Stop by the Bursar’s Office and make sure your account is up to date. One Stop, Griffith Hall
Visit the Registrar’s Office if necessary. One Stop, Griffith Hall
Follow-up meeting with Financial Aid if necessary. One Stop, Griffith Hall
Get your parking decal. Public Safety, Amelia Ave.
o Bring license, registration, proof of insurance and Student ID. $75 fee for decal,
applied to your Student Account.
Visit the offices of various services available to you on campus: Student Health Services,
Academic Success Center, Cross Cultural Center, Counseling Center, Housing and Residential Life,
Dining Services, Career Development, Academic Advising, etc. (See campus map or info tables)
Socialize with other students in the LBC Lobby
First Focus Group Meeting: LBC 122, 123, & 124
Meet your FOCUS group. With the help of your knowledgeable and experienced FOCUS Leaders, you
will get to know some of your new classmates and learn about life at Stetson.
5:00 - 7:00pm
Dinner: Meal Provided, Carlton Union Building, Commons
Join your FOCUS Leaders for a meal on us. Learn tricks of the trade from them, talk about your classes,
and what to do on weekends!
7:00pm - 9:00pm
Karaoke Night: Carlton Union Building, Coffee Shop
Have a fun night after a day full of information! Join the FOCUS Leaders for a night of Karaoke and
conversation. Not a singer? No problem! Stop by to enjoy the entertainment and great company.
Saturday, January 9, Day 2 of Orientation

Class Meeting 2: What it Means to Be a Hatter: LBC 108
You are now a Hatter, but what does that mean? In fact, what is a Hatter? You will walk away from this
high-energy session with more pride for your school than ever! Also, hear from Club Sports, Student
Organizations, Intramurals, and learn about ways to get involved at Stetson.

Campus Programs, Services, and Resources
Ses. 3: 11:20-11:55
Your FOCUS group will travel through 3 short sessions where you will learn about different services and
resources available to you on campus.
 LBC 122- The Buzz- Join the Wellness and Recreation Department as we discuss sexual assault
prevention, reducing the risks of drug and alcohol abuse, and sexual health. Learn more about
the importance of making healthy decisions during your time at Stetson.
 LBC 123- Your Career - Hear from Career and Professional Development about the services
available to you through their office. What should you be thinking about now to make sure that
you are ready to go for graduation and beyond?
 LBC 319- Technology Resources – Hear from your FOCUS Coordinators about all of the IT
resources you’ll need to be familiar with while you are a student at Stetson. Including how to log
in to systems, navigate a degree audit, find cultural credit, register for classes, and more.

Dining Services will come discuss the options available for students to eat on campus and meal plans that
are available for both residential and commuter students.

Enjoy lunch on us! Interact with your FOCUS Leaders and each other, and enjoy some tasty treats.
1:30pm - 2:20pm
Class Meeting 3: Personal Growth: LBC 108
Meet the Dean of Students, Lynn Schoenberg, as she introduces our campus values and discusses what it
means to be a leader and member of the Stetson community. Then learn more about university policies,
procedures, and your rights and responsibilities with our Director for Community Standards, Jess Varga.
2:30 - 3:20pm
Class Meeting 4: Global Citizenship: LBC 108
Global Citizenship is an important part of Stetson’s mission to prepare students to be informed, active, and
engaged citizens of both local communities and the world. Learn about the many ways Stetson challenges
you to be a global citizen through community engagement, study abroad, diversity and inclusion, social
justice, and intercultural competence.
3:30pm - 4:00pm
Final FOCUS Group Meeting: LBC 122, 123, & 124
Finish up by discussing the day with your FOCUS group. Ask any final questions, and give us some
feedback about your experience with Spring FOCUS 2015.
After you have finished the FOCUS evaluation your official Orientation to Stetson University is complete. We hope
you have a wonderful first day of classes!
