Sun., Jan. 29th at 11:00 a.m.
All Eighth Grade Honors English students are asked to attend this special Mass
celebrating Catholic schools. Students will serve as greeters, lectors, and choir members.
Students will be wearing their Mass uniform and will earn a spirit-dress pass for Mon.,
Jan. 30th. We look forward to seeing you there!
The Swiss Family Robinson
As Eighth Grade Honors English students explore the classic, Christian novel, The
Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss, students are learning how to utilize their
minds, bodies, and souls. The book chronicles the adventures of a pastor, his wife, and
their four boys marooned on a deserted island. Through ingenuity, fortitude, and
optimism, the family thrives as they work together to create a home.
As the classes dissect the novel, students sample the flavor of island life. Students
partook in tasting coconut water and pineapple - edibles found on the island. Students
also "felt" island life by holding an animal pelt and rubbing the medicinal qualities of the
aloe vera plant on their palms. Students further delve into scripture searching for God's
instructions on how we should live and treat each other.
"This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalm 118:24

Corporal Work of Mercy
Shelter the Homeless
looktohimandberadiant.blogspot.com
Our Corporal Work of Mercy for the months of January and February is, "Shelter
the Homeless." The key word is "home." How can we make our church feel like
a home for those seeking shelter? Do we greet people at Mass? Do we share
God's love with others?
Additionally, we must also reflect on our own homes. Before we receive
communion we say, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed." If Christ were to enter your
home today, then what would He encounter?
A Man for All Seasons
PLAYBILL
Last quarter, Eighth Grade Honors English students re-enacted the play, A Man for All
Seasons, the story of Sir Thomas More. As a culminating project, students created playbills
demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the book. Students also cast character roles
with modern-day actors. Ultimately, students learned the qualities and sacrifice of our Patron Saint of
Attorneys, Sir Thomas More.
