ELIGIBILITY/TYPE OF EVENT: Noncompetitive. Walk, jog, or run at your
own pace. Open to all, and families are encouraged to participate. Children under 12
must be accompanied by an adult. All participants will sign a waiver of responsibility
and must carry a start card. The event will be held regardless of weather conditions.
STARTING POINT: Windcrest Inn & Suites --For four Fredericksburg Walks;
AVA PILGRIMAGE, CEMETERIES, CROSS MOUNTAIN, and TOWN &
COUNTRY. Start point and directions for Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and
the Lyndon Baines Johnson State Park walk are on back cover.

START/FINISH TIME: Daily, dawn to dusk for walks starting at the Windcrest
Inn.

All walk distances are 10km/5km.
The AVA PILGRIMAGE-2016/Y0001: Difficulty 1A. Fredericksburg was the site
of the first IVV sanctioned walk, held in June, 1976. The original AVA Pilgrimage
Walk was sanctioned here in 1980. This walk is a self guided tour of the
Fredericksburg Historical District and honors the heritage of Volkssporting in
America. The walk covers the historic downtown area and extends to the Stadt
Friedhof, or City Cemetery, located at the east end of town. Must drive to the start of

CEMETERIES-2016/Y0107: Difficulty 1A. This trail includes residential areas and
the two cemeteries associated with St. Mary's church; the main location and Pioneer
Cemetery. The Pioneer Cemetery has about fifty graves in it, being used for only the
short space of about fifteen years, from the late 1850s up to the early 1870s. Register
at Windcrest Inn & Suites, then drive to downtown Marktplatz to begin walk. AVA

CROSS MOUNTAIN-2016/Y1114: Difficulty 1A (Wheelchairs/strollers are OK on
route except for the first 0.4 km dirt/gravel trail, going up to top of Cross Mountain,
which is steep and rated C.) After registering at Windcrest Inn & Suites, drive about
2.7 miles to base of Cross Mountain. Walk begins with the spectacular view from the
top, looking west over the valleys created by Town and Barons Creeks, which flow
south into the Pedernales River. Then the route winds through period residential

TOWN AND COUNTRY-2016/Y0108: Difficulty 1A. This walk heads south and
east over to neat, modest neighborhoods before making a loop on the north side of

DIRECTIONS TO THE START POINT: 908 S Adams (TX-16 S),
Fredericksburg 78624. From IH-10 at Exit 477, turn east on US-290, then right on
Main St. At Exit 523, turn north on US-87 and turn left on Main St). Either way, go
to Adams St (TX-16) and go south to the Inn. WALK BOX is in motel lobby; open
6am-11pm.

INVITES YOU TO WALK
Description: The Park entry is $7 (in addition to $3 Walk fee) per person unless you
have Texas State Park Pass. Enchanted Rock was designated a National Natural
Landmark in 1970 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome, which rises 425 feet above ground,
1,825 feet above sea level, and covers 640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths
(underground rock formation uncovered by erosion) in the United States. This event
involves hiking on unpaved, granite gravel and rocky terrain. Enchanted Rock itself
is NOT included on the 10km route, but is a 2k option (for a total of 12k). This part
is extremely steep. Hiking boots and walking sticks are very important because of the
terrain. NOTE: Open 7 days a week year-round, from 8 AM to 10 PM. Call 830685-3636 or check the Enchanted Rock website for irregular closings—hunting and
weekend/holiday parking lot availability.

Description: The 10 km trail crosses the river to LBJ National Historic Park, Ranch
and Texas White House. This park tells the story of our 36th President beginning with
his ancestors to his final resting place on this, his beloved ranch. This entire "circle
of life" gives the visitor a unique perspective into one of America's most noteworthy
citizens by providing the most complete picture of any American President.
