Do you want more out of life? We’ll look at C.S. Timothy Matkin - These are the books that are not in most people’s Bibles and even fewer know much of anything about them. Be the few, the proud, the informed. We will explore the rich content of these forgotten books of the Greek Old Testament. We will have a few extra copies, but if possible, bring a non-KJV Bible that includes the Apocrypha or “Deutero-canonical books” like the RSV, NRSV, ESV, NAB, NJB, or Living Bible. In this class we will take a look at what the virtues are, how to practice them, and how to avoid the corresponding vices. --___ THEOLOGY OF THE BODY – Fr. Lee Nelson– This class engages Christian teaching about the meaning and purpose of our human bodies, male and female. We will sensitively address practical questions of how to treat your body (and those of others) as temples of the Holy Spirit. We will also encourage students to make and keep plans for being chaste while living in the real world. --___ SERMON ON THE MOUNT: - Fr. Gregory Crosthwait - An introduction to Jesus’ famous sermon as it is recorded in Matthew Chapters 5 through 7. The Saint Michael’s Conference, originally founded in Massachusetts in 1960, is a group of young people, lay leaders, and priests who come together to form a spiritual family. The daily rhythm of corporate worship, study, discussion, recreation and relaxation, establishes the community in a vital, integrated, and lived faith. Our conference is a spiritual retreat, wherein we go apart from the world in order to focus upon God. Participants return to their home parishes energized to manfully fight against the world, the flesh, and the devil. For most, it is such a joyful experience that they return year after year. Persons providing rides are requested to leave Sunday before 8:00 pm and arrive between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm on Saturday. Conference participants need to be present for the entire conference. Please do not make plans to leave before the conference is over. ELIGIBILITY: The conference is open to young people from 12 to 19 years of age. To be eligible, a candidate must be 12 years old at the start of the conference. Conference members should be Christians who desire a deeper intimacy with God. Questions and doubts are a part of the process and do not disqualify a serious candidate. WHAT TO BRING: Bible, Saint Augustine’s Prayer Book (If you have one!), notebook, pen and pencil. Sport clothes, toiletries, and personal items, battery-powered or wind up alarm clock, dress clothing (dresses, sport coat, dress shoes, ties). Sports equipment (balls, bats, gloves, hats, etc.), Non-electrical musical instruments, if you play. REGISTRATION: Registration is limited to 72 students (36 males, 36 females) whose applications are accepted in the order received until June 15th, 2016. Those canceling after June 5th will not receive any of their registration fee back. DO NOT BRING: Snacks, inappropriate clothing (no bare midriffs), weapons or electronic devices. UNPLUG: You will not have access to the Internet during the conference. And you ARE expected to check in your cellphone or any other Internet - capable devices at checkin.
