MY BELOVED FLOCK
“...please do not get excited too soon or
alarmed…”
Have you ever been in a panicky situation; a situation where someone says “please do not get excited.” Situations like when the boat you are on is sinking; when the
plane you are flying in has to make an emergency landing;
or perhaps when the doors to an elevator won’t open! The
next thing we hear someone say is: “Don’t worry we have
everything under control.” Ironically, there is not much
comfort in these words.
Much has been written and speculated about the
end times…that great and terrible day. Some people get
wound up about it. Some allow fear and anxiety to overtake the things in which they have no control. St. Paul
shares with us his concern for these very things: we should
not get excited or alarmed. Our Lord will come one
day. Fear not! The important thing is that when He
comes, we should gather round Him.
Sacred Scripture today tells us that Zacchaeus the
tax collector was anxious to see what kind of man Jesus
was. Imagine a tax collector climbing a tree just to get a
glimpse of the Savior. He must have gotten more anxious
when Jesus invited himself to his home. However, what
was the result of the coming of Jesus to his home? Conversion! What happened to Zacchaeus that day is the conversion the Lord desires in us: a conversion founded on
trust, not upon fear or anxiety. True fear of the Lord
means the fear of offending Him through sinfulness, not
of approaching Him with confidence. The Lord welcomes
us everyday in the Blessed Sacrament under the form of a
host. What is concealed by human senses is revealed in
faith in our heart and soul…it is truly the Lord in the Eucharist!
When the Lord does come, that great and terrible
day, it will be great for those who have welcomed him in
the tabernacle of their converted heart. It will be terrible
for those who kept the door to their heart closed to Him. If
you have been doing the latter, that’s something to worry
about.
In Christ,
Fr. Frank

Frank.

ANNUAL SEMINARIES’ APPEAL
This weekend, your parish priest celebrated Mass; this
weekend your parish priest absolved the sins of penitents
who approached him in the confessional. Without question, our parish priests are indispensable in guiding the
faithful to the path of holiness. Next weekend, the archdiocese will conduct the Annual Seminaries’ Appeal. Funds
raised will be allocated to the education and spiritual formation of our seminarians—our future priests—who have
been called by God, upon their ordinations, to enrich the
spiritual lives of the laity. Please be generous.
ACHDIOCESE FOR MILITARY SERVICES COLLECTION
November 12-13, 2016
This year, a special collection will be taken up in our parishes the weekend of November 12-13, 2016 for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS)
The AMS is the only source of Catholic chaplains for the
U. S. military and Department of Veterans Affairs Medical
Centers. All told, the AMS and its endorsed priests and
deacons are responsible for pastoral service to approximately 1.8 million Catholics.
Your support of the National Collection for AMS will
bring the Gospel, the sacraments and other forms of spiritual support to men and women who serve our Country
and defend our freedoms, including parishioners and families from our own diocese.
