Spring 2012 Semester
Student Email & More
Student email is the primary method that the college uses to convey personal college business and course related
information to you. If you have a different email address, as listed on your application to the college, all new
communications to that address will be shifted to your student email address. As the college moves to a more
paperless “green” digital campus, expect more communications via email. But, it isn’t all about college business;
you may use your student email to correspond with other students, instructors, friends, or family. Even after you
graduate, transfer, or have an extended break you may keep this account.
If you explore the links on your email home page, you will find that this is not just an email service; you have other
functions within it which are very useful. It has applications like online Word, Excel, Power Point in “Office” and a
personal internet storage service in “SkyDrive” in the “More” link list, as well as links to news and games.

Use your FREE Microsoft Office Web Apps version or buy it with a student discount
Don’t have software to write papers or do spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations on your laptop or home
computer? You do now. Microsoft Office Online will allow you to create and edit Microsoft Office documents in
your web browser. The links are located in your student email within your myNSCC account. Logon to myNSCC >
Click email > Click “Office” the top menu. Remember that these applications will only be as fast as your internet
connection.
Even if your internet is slow, you are eligible for student discounts for Microsoft Office, so you can have a personal
copy of your very own. While in the Skydrive link, look to the bottom of the page for the link Microsoft Student
Discounts. These online and student discount versions are compatible with on campus Microsoft Office
applications.
SkyDrive - better than a USB and you won’t lose it! - 25GB Personal On-line Storage
This is an excellent way to save and retrieve your papers anywhere that you can access the internet. Just think
of SkyDrive as an on-line flash drive that you can’t lose, or walk away from while it is plugged into a classroom
computer. SkyDrive is found under the “More” drop-down menu at the top of the page. SkyDrive has 25GB of
storage space for your documents and photos. You’ll appreciate this feature, especially if you have ever lost a flash
drive along with all your class work. Check it out buy clicking the “More” link at the top of your student email page
then select “SkyDrive” from the drop down list.

You Have Two Passwords
Yes, students still have two passwords. Just remember this …
Your myNSCC web password – alphanumeric, mixed letters and numbers - is only used for the myNSCC web portal
login – http://my.NSCC.edu - everything else that requires a password uses six numbers – your six digit PIN.
User Name Options: You now have the option of using either your NSCC Student email address as your user name
when logging on to campus computers.
Examples:
Student email address as User Name: [email protected]
OR, with an “A” number as User Name: A12345678
Two Ways to Access Web Courses; “NS Online” & What Password to Use
If you are required to enter NS Online to do course work there are two ways to access.
1) Logon to myNSCC https://my.nscc.edu then click the “NS Online Courses” link (myNSCC requires your “A”
number and alphanumeric password – not your six digit PIN)
2) Go directly to web courses “NS Online” by typing in the address https://elearn.nscc.edu (NS Online
requires your “A” number and six digit PIN – not your myNSCC password)
The second method will be necessary when taking quizzes through the Lockdown Browser that is downloaded
before you are able to access individual test.
In the Works
One Password
Work is in progress to consolidate student passwords into a single password.
Synchronization & External logon Windows Live
If a password is required for a feature listed in the “More” drop down menu within your student email, such as
“Devices,” the synchronization will not pass the password challenge. These features will become available later.
However, Skydrive and Office Web apps, mentioned here, are fully functional.
Currently, student email is only available through myNSCC. However, work is in progress to allow logon through
Windows Live using current student credentials.
If you need to synchronize these functions, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk (615) 353-3678 or 1800-272-7363 Ext. 3678.
Help!
If help is needed for the features offered within your NSCC Live pages, click the blue “Help” button located on the
upper right corner the email page, Office Apps pages and at the bottom of each of the other features. This link will
take you to the site. http://help.outlook.com/
For general information, FAQ, bugs, and “how to” sheets related to our college NSCC Live systems, go to the Help
Desk Skydrive and check out the files that have been shared there.
If you are unable to find the help you need in the above areas…
Email: [email protected]
We are excited to be able to add this new aspect to your college "digital" life. It is our hope that this email system
provides you with what you need to keep informed, manage college business communications, and keep you
connected with your classmates, professors, and maybe even have fun.
