VOLUNTEER
Opportunities
School is out for summer,
some of our very good
student volunteers or off for an
adventure, so we are looking
for volunteers to take a weekly
dog care or cat care shift.
Many of our volunteers tell us
that a weekly care shift is a
great substitute for other more
expensive stress relief therapy
– try it, you may agree. If you
are interested, please call us
at 668-1004.
Special Message
If you live in the northeast
part of Tallahassee and
need pet sitting services,
please consider Tally Pet
Pal – licensed, bonded,
and insured and services
provided by Emma Cornwell.
You can contact Tally Pet Pal
at 894-3256, tallypetpal@
cs.com, or visit www.
tallypetpal.com.
Many thanks to PAWS Pet
Boutique for hosting us on
Saturday, April 5. In addition
to two of our special dogs
at the event, we sold raffle
tickets, face painting by
Lauren, animal balloons, and
baked goodies. We also had
a great opportunity to shop
at PAWS Pet Boutique – lots
of wonderful things for your
pet. Please visit the store at
the Killearn Shopping Center,
3491 Thomasville Road.
Our cats know there is one person they are sure to see every week – cat care volunteer Shirley. Not only is she one of the
most dependable for the cats, she is also one of our very first cat care volunteers. Even when she is not with our cats,
Shirley is thinking of them as she often brings wonderful new bedding and soft blankets for that extra touch of luxury we all
know cats crave. Shirley is also one of our best people for contributing baked goods (very tasty baked goods) when we
need goodies for sale at an event. If the cats could vote, they would elect Shirley as President this November because,
from the perspective of cats, she has all the right stuff for that high office. THANK YOU and congratulations to you Shirley
– you are the unanimous nominee of the Feline Party!
COLUMN OF CATE THE CAT
I think the cold weather is behind us, and the sun is
shining. I do so love basking in the sun, napping and
grooming. But that’s not always such a good thing for
my all white friends (and Doug’s all white friends). You
see, white cats and dogs have the same problem as
fair skinned humans – lack of pigmentation to protect
them from UV rays. This makes them more susceptible
to skin cancer. I’m an indoor cat, so I have some
protection. The message for all my white cat friends,
Doug’s white dog friends, and all their humans: please
make sure you have shade and shelter from the sun so
you’ll minimize your risk of getting skin cancer.
DIARY OF DOUG THE DOG
You can’t judge a home by its cover – or lack thereof.
I have a few good buddies who live with homeless
humans, and most of them just love it. They don’t
even miss the couch and carpet because they get
to walk all day long – such puppy pleasure. Most of
them spend all day long with their humans who really,
really love them. And the bonus is getting to sleep all
kinds of different places. It’s not for all of us, but for my
adventurous pals, it’s a great life!
RAFFLES
CURRENT RAFFLES: With Father’s Day coming up, you will
want to buy tickets for either or both of these separate
raffles:
$50.00 gift certificate to Home Depot
$50.00 gift certificate to Kevin’s Sporting Goods
Dad would like the prize as is or use it toward a special
gift he has already picked out.
The drawing for both raffles will be on Monday, June
9, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Petco. Tickets for each raffle
are $2.00 each and all proceeds will go to support our
operations. For each raffle, a maximum of 100 tickets
will be sold – your chances of winning are good. You will
not need to be present at any drawing in order to win.
This is a great way to give and win at the same time!
View any of these raffle prizes at www.ecahanimals.org.
To buy tickets, contact us at 668-1004 or e-mail us at
[email protected].
WINNERS: The Publix gift certificate was so popular that
we started a second one, so we have two winners:
Melinda W. with Public Service Commission and Buddy
D. with Florida Fire Sprinkler Association. The winner of the
Mother’s Day gift basket is Kerri F. who bought a ticket at
PetSmart. The winner of the Cinco de Mayo gift basket is
Toni B., a local attorney. THANK YOU all for playing – your
contribution really helps us to cover costs.
