Raytheon STARS LITE Key Features and Benefits • Increased situational awareness and enhanced safety • low cost • Rapid delivery, minimal facility requirements and simple installation • Part of the STARS(FMs and DoD's next-generation TRACON system) family of products The Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System(STARS)is the FAA's and Department of Defense's (000) next-generation Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) automation system.STARSis currently in operation at more than 100 sites and deployment is planned at many more facilities during the next fewyears. The STARSLocal Integrated Tower Equipment (LITE)system is part of this product family, designed specificallyfor use at medium- and low-density airports. At an affordable price, it provides tower controllers with a displaysystem to increase their situational awareness beyond the normal visual range. Bycombining flight-plan data with inputs from existing sensors, STARSLITEis able to displayflight-plan information, aircraft positions, aircraft data blocks, safety alerts and weather information superimposed on customized digital maps. STARSLITEis able to interface with an airport's Flight Data Input/Output (FDIO) system, enabling it to perform automatic beacon-code/call-sign conversions. Typically,STARSLITEis configured to receiveinputs from one or more digital surveillance radars, but it can also be configured to accept data from Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and multilateration systems. Supported interfaces include Common Digitizer and ASTERIX. STARSLITEis hosted on a standard Sun Microsystems™ workstation, driving up to four color displays, which can be CRTs,flat-panel displaysor high-brightness monitors. It also uses a standard Sun keyboard with either a mouse or trackball. Use of commercial-off-theshelf (COTS) hardware results in rapid delivery, minimal facilityrequirements, and a simple installationprocess. Options for STARSLITE include digital tape drives for continuous data recording and additional radar interfaces.
