Your questions answered
1)
How long is the spreadsheet software course?
The spreadsheet paper course is delivered in two stages over a two week period. However
one of the good things about BPP’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is its flexibility so if
you feel that you wish to spend a little longer on your studies then this is fine.
2) How much time should I devote to my studies?
This will differ from student to student depending on any previous experience using
spreadsheets. The recommended time is between 7 and 8 hours per week.
3) What materials do I receive?
Before your course starts you will receive a pack containing a Workbook, Course Notes and a
BPP Binder
4) What is the BPP Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)?
BPP’s VLE is the platform where you will find your On-line Learning Plan for the spreadsheet
paper.
5) Where do I find BPP’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)?
The address for the Virtual Learning Environment is http://learn.bpp.com
6) What resources are available on the Spreadsheet paper Learning Plan?
You will find two stage guidances, a tutorial programme presentation, access to a forum plus
softcopies of the materials. You will also find a welcome video from your on-line tutor.
7) Are there any other study resources available?
Yes, BPP have produced a number of spreadsheet activities and your on-line classroom tutor
will provide information on how you access these when you join the course.
8) What should I do before I commence my course?
You should check that you have received all of the materials. If you have not please email
our customer services on [email protected]. You will also need to complete and
return an Induction brochure for each level of study. The Induction brochure is found on
your Learning Plan.
9) How is the spreadsheet paper assessed?
The spreadsheet paper is assessed by a 2.5 hour computer based project (CBP) or by
submission of workplace evidence. Most students choose to sit the CBP to achieve the
spreadsheet paper.
10) What does the submission of workplace evidence involve?
Students who choose this route will need to have permission form their supervisor and will
collect and submit their evidence on the AAT’s Learn plus system. Students are required to
map their work 100% and the evidence has to be supported by a witness testimony. The
time scheduled for collection and submission is three weeks.
11) Is there a practice paper for the spreadsheet assessment?
Yes there is a practice paper and your on-line tutor will email this to you
12) Where can I sit my Spreadsheet paper CBP?
We run regular sessions at BPP centres for you to sit your SPSW CBP. Alternatively you may
choose to sit your assessment at your workplace. For details of dates and centres please
email [email protected]
13) I already have a qualification in using spreadsheets do I still need to sit the assessment?
The AAT does allow the use of Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) to achieve the spreadsheet
paper. Your existing qualification will need to satisfy certain requirements to use RPL and
there may be a fee to pay. Please email [email protected] for further details.
14) What Excel version does BPP use?
We are in the process of changing our Excel versions and your on-line tutor will advise on
the Excel version currently used at each centre. Alternatively if you sit your CBP assessment
in your workplace you will be using the Excel version that you are most familiar with.
15) How do I find out my assessment result?
Your assessor will communicate your result including task by task feedback through the
AAT’s Learn Plus system.
