The BEAT GOES ON!
As we go into “season” all cylinders are on full throttle. The car transports
are beginning to line up outside our gates. Our seasonal staff has arrived and are
in the midst of their rigorous training programs, the weather is beginning to get
a bit cooler and the Club Improvement Plan (CIP) is proceeding at a good pace.
November
Steve Irwin
From the standpoint of the CIP, the Fazio II course is completed and the grass is in the growing
stage. In second half of November, George Kervern, our outstanding Director of Course &
Grounds will be in a better position to make his recommendation as to when the course should be
opened for play. At the present time we are looking at mid-December - but as you know, the
opening date remains subject to the vagaries of weather- temperature, sunlight, clouds and
storms. George will keep us advised. In all cases we will not jeopardize the the course by rushing
to open it prematurely.

David Ross will describe on page 9 our status in respect to the Promenade, Ladies’ Card Room
and Ladies’ Lobby Restroom – as well as our planning for the Spa, Tennis and Fitness building
and recreational area. A major shout out is due to David. His skill, time commitment and
seriousness of purpose have added greatly to our ability to move the CIP forward. He has been a
great resource to the Club for we are very appreciative.

As of this writing The Grille at Lakeside has been open for about 10 days. Since the “soft opening”
suggestions have been provided by diners primarily with respect to the menu, service and the
“feel” of the Grille. One consistent comment is that the food which has been served is excellent.
Management is working diligently to improve service - which seems to be progressing nicely and
to modify menu items to include less complicated food offerings like pizza, pasta, hot dogs (which was always the plan) and to work on the casual style of the experience. We are confident
that as Management works through the opening issues, St. Andrews will have a high quality,
casual dining experience of which we will all be proud.

When Hurricane Matthew moved to the east and north, we dodged a HUGE bullet! We sustained
minor damage and suffered minor inconveniences. This could have been a major issue for the
Club and community.

As you are no doubt aware, Hurricane Matthew caused substantial damage to the island of Haiti.
As you may also know, many of our employees are Haitian and have various family members
living there who are in need. About two years ago the Board of Governors established an
Employee Emergency Fund which is funded annually with $25,000. This fund is utilized to assist
those of our employees who find themselves in extreme financial distress and personal need. The
Board has endorsed a proposal of the Employee Emergency Fund committee to provide a total of
approximately $11,850 to fund travel and related costs of 10 of our affected employees enabling
them to return to Haiti to assist family members there. We can be proud of our policy of protecting
members of the St. Andrews family. This effort is being made in conjunction with Ron Gallatin and his sponsored charity HOT - who has prior experience in dealing with similar issues in Haiti.
On the business side, I am happy to report that 51 homes closed through October 31. Last year we
had 55 homes sold – a St. Andrews record. I can also report that we remain positive to our budget.
In an effort to provide continuity between Club and leadership changes we have established the
Past President’s Advisory Committee (P-PAC). The purpose of P-PAC is to reduce the duplication
of effort and provide information about Club programs which may have been applied in the past
and to otherwise take advantage of the experience from our past leaders.
All best,
Steve Irwin

Dear Members:
The start of the fall season is always a busy and exciting time at St.
Andrews Country Club as we put the finishing touches on our
programming for the season and prepare to reopen many areas that
were part of the Club Improvement Plan. I know that both members
and the professional staff look forward to reopening the Ladies’ Card
Room, Lobby Restrooms and the Promenade Room this month.
Craig D. Martin, CCM,
In addition to hiring many local employees this year we also have
Chief Operating Officer
welcomed many returning and new international staff members to the
and General Manager
professional team. As always, they are bright, young and eager to learn
the finer points of hospitality in a country club environment. Training is going well and
includes role playing and classroom work followed up by rigorous testing. We ask that you
assist us in our training by remembering that new employees often require some time to
consistently deliver the service excellence that is our standard. Your patience and
understanding is very much appreciated.
The Grille at Lakeside promises to continue being the casual, family friendly favorite as it
has been in the past. Your feedback and participation in the reopening of this restaurant
has been very helpful in providing us with specific details about the dining experience you
and your families prefer. We know that by working together, The Grille at Lakeside will
exceed expectations and will set a new standard for country club casual dining.
We anticipate another very busy season and look forward to seeing you, your family and
friends enjoying the Club. As a reminder, Guest Passes can be requested at the Front Desk
or online by logging in to our private member website at www.standrewscc.com. In order
to ensure your guests have a memorable experience at the Club, please make sure they are
aware of our Guest Use Rules and Dress Codes. This information is available on our
website and at the Front Desk for your convenience.
In closing, welcome to the 2016-2017 season at St. Andrews Country Club! The entire
professional staff is committed to delivering on our promise to meet and exceed your
expectations at every opportunity.
Sincerely,
Craig D. Martin, C.C.M.

It is with great excitement that I join the St. Andrews Country Club Management team. I feel very
fortunate to be working with such an incredible team of dedicated professionals. During my first
few weeks at the Club I have had the pleasure to meet many members who have graciously extended
a warm welcome. Thank you all for such gracious hospitality. I feel very privileged to be part of the
St. Andrews family.
Rick Dente
Assistant General Manager
Having worked in the Club Industry for the past 15 years at various clubs across the U.S., I look
forward to working with my team members and supporting them in providing you with a first class
experience every time you visit the Club.
I am excited to be working on various programming concepts and the latest club trends so that we continue to be the best
and provide the best to all of you in every aspect of the club experience.
Thank you again for all the smiles, handshakes and warm greetings. I look forward to seeing you at the club.
Best regards,
Rick Dente
In December, the Gallery will host its first four-course Wine Dinner on Saturday, December 10.
Our table-side presentation of food and wine will enhance your dining experience in the private Vine
Room. Waiters dressed in white shirts and aprons will delight our members in the pouring, stirring,
shaking, cracking and, of course, lighting food on fire right at the table.
On Thursday, December 15 enjoy our first Dinner Under the Stars with live entertainment at
Café Blue, and on Thursday, January 19 we will host our first, and always highly anticipated, Herb
Garden Dinner.
Federica Davis
Director of Club Operations
We are looking forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and we encourage everyone to
make reservations as soon as possible. Please remember to review the dress codes for these events in your social calendar,
and remind any guests that you are inviting. If you do not plan to join us for this holiday, please stop by and pick up a
Take-Out Order form at the Front Desk or online under the “Dining” section. It would be our pleasure to help you with the
cooking!
Our new international staff has arrived and are currently undergoing training; we are seeing their performance accelerate
along our expected learning curve. It typically takes around three/four weeks for their skill level to catch up; our returners
group are doing a fine job of helping their peers adjust to the high expectations of St. Andrews standards. We teach our food
& beverage employees through aassessments, quizzes, synced annotations and manuals to enable effective learning. They
enjoy creative flexibility through a robust set of built-in and role-paly interactive elements. We allow the newly hired
employees some latitude in setting the pace of learning new tasks, particularly as the training is provided by numerous
employees who must perform their duties as well as train the new hires. In a busy, hectic environment, this is a huge
challenge for all to overcome.
As we measure their progress, the process builds the newly hired employee’s confidence through affirmation of their
accomplishments.
See you around the Club

CLUB IMPROVEMENT PLAN
CONSTRUCTION NEWS
David Ross,
Chair Construction
Committee
Property Committee
Dear Fellow Members,
I am happy to report to the Membership that targeted
progress continues to be made on the various
components of the Club Improvement Plan. The Fazio
II golf course is growing in beautifully.
The golf course remains on budget and in fact that
budget even allows for the addition of a significant
water feature, visible from the clubhouse and Lakeside,
framing the short game practice area and wrapping
the west side of the Golf Performance Center. What a
bonus!
face lift of the main lobby, an expanded Tennis Shop, a significantly
expanded breakfast / bagel lounge, an enhanced outdoor patio experience,
renovated and expanded Men’s and Women’s lockers and changing areas
plus the addition of dedicated Yoga and Pilates Studios, a dedicated
Spinning Room and expanded workout and equipment areas on the
second floor.
All in all, life is good here at St. Andrews and our capital programs are on
solid footing.
Thank you all for you support and patience.
Yours,
David Ross,
Chair Construction
Committee
The Turn, our new beverage and snack center, located
on the east side of the Golf Performance Center is
moving along and replaces the deteriorating beverage
center opposite the starter.
The Turn will be manned and offer sandwiches, hot
dogs, salad and fruit cups, fruit and candy along with
your favorite beverages. The area will be screened with
a flat screen TV and comfortable tables and chairs.
So whether you’re looking to take a break from the
range, fuel up for your round of golf or take a break for
a snack between nines, The Turn will now be at your
service!
The Ladies Card Room, Ladies Lobby Restroom and
Promenade renovations are winding down with all
furnishings and fixtures in route for installation to
meet our targeted late November delivery dates.
The Men’s Card Room carpet replacement was
accomplished without a hitch and looks great.
The new Spa Building and the Fitness / Tennis
Building plans are being finalized and our team of
professionals are working toward filing for permits
allowing us to undertake implementation of Phase II of
the CIP.
We are confident that the membership will appreciate
a true resort style, full service Spa and salon amenity
here at St. Andrews. Having outgrown the existing Spa
and salon facilities, the new Spa will stand for years to
come as a centerpiece of the first class services St.
Andrews is committed to.

S.A.W.G.A.news
Meryl Gallatin
Communications,
S.A.W.G.A.
The “season” has started, and the St. Andrews Women’s Golf Association has a wonderful
tournament schedule for both 18 and 9 hole golfers thanks to Linda Soicher, Patti Abrams,
Candace Mesner, Anita Kessler and Joan Winograd. Summer Swingers concluded their season at
Gleneagles Country Club at the end of September. Congratulations and thank you to all the
women who came out play for St. Andrews. We welcome both new and returning golfers to join
us for our weekly tournaments that are competitive and fun, followed by some social time at
lunch in OUR section of The Gallery. The signup book is out in the Golf Shop the week before
each regular Tuesday tournament.
Judi Falk worked all summer on our Fall Tournament and Luncheon: “Hooray for Hollywood,”
on November 8. Colors of the day: black, gold, silver and white will make us shine like stars on
the fairways and in the dining room. Judi, Chef Steve and his staff, Linda Spielmann, Catering Department, and, of
course, our Pros always do an incredible job! Thank you, all!
Please check eblasts, the handbook and our 2016-17 S.A.W.G.A. booklet to see what’s up and coming. November 22
is Play for Pies (getting ready for Thanksgiving), and November 29 is Mulligan Stew where you can purchase
mulligans to support Palm Beach Junior Girls Golf.
Have you gotten a partner for December’s Governor’s Cup? Details are in the Handbook. Check the calendar for
dates for this elimination partnered tournament.
We have an amazing Professional Staff headed by Paul Clivio, Director of Golf and Head Professional Mike
Johnson. They and their staff are available for lessons to help you better your skills and make golf more enjoyable.
See you on the green
Meryl Gallatin, for S.A.W.G.A.

THE
Over Net
Our Opening Fall Tennis Event and
Luncheon, scheduled for Saturday,
November 12 will officially kick off our
upcoming tennis season. This awesome
event will include a round robin format;
a St. Andrews pro set doubles exhibition,
Aaron Krickstein
lunch, awards and raffles. We look
Director of Tennis
forward to having all of our tennis
enthusiasts come out and support this opening event.
Our ladies league play has already started as Division 2B,
Division 6 and Division 7 began their respective seasons in late
September / early October. Our Ladies’ Division 55-Love team
will begin play in November. Two of our men’s teams have also
started league play and everyone is looking forward to another
exciting season. Best of luck to all our team players and as
always, thanks for your participation and support.
For the seventh consecutive season, we have published a
Tennis Programs Brochure designed especially for tennis.
This booklet will contain our entire tennis schedule of events,
league matches, Junior Program, rules and regulations, and
other important information. You may pick up a copy in the
Tennis Shop at your earliest convenience.
On a final note, be sure to sign up for our monthly Saturday
Complimentary Clinic or please come out and join the fun in
our monthly Monday Twilight Mixer. These are two social
events that I know everyone will thoroughly enjoy.
On a final note, your St. Andrews professional tennis staff
consisting of yours truly, Dave, Simon, Marcelo and twins
Mike and Dave are always here to help assist you with any of
your tennis needs. We all look forward to another amazing
tennis season here at beautiful St. Andrews Country Club.

THERMAL THERAPY ~
NURTURE YOUR SOUL
WITH A SOOTHING
STONE MASSAGE
Hot stones although
nurturing, are not used to
replace human touch they
are used as an additional relaxing technique.
This technique, used many centuries ago by
Chinese, Egyptians and Native Americans has
a history of spiritual and therapeutic healing.
Susan, LMT
The experience is an instant inner magnetic
connection to rock; basalt lava stones. These
smooth hot basalt lava stones contain calcium,
iron and magnesium; minerals that are
known to help balance energy within the body.
A Soothing Stone Massage brings relief to
tense muscles, sore joints, stressed emotions
and a weary spirit. This combination of
Therapist and stones from Mother Nature
makes for an exceptional spa experience. The
therapists touch and warm stones melt away
stress and tension sending ‘melt and relax’
sensations to the nerves of the body.

Maureen Buchbinder
Nutrition Educator
M: MEASURABLE

R: REALISTIC
T: WITHIN A TIME FRAME
Stop making excuses. We are all busy, some more
than others. The fact here is that only you can exercise
your body, and make time to grocery shop to have the
right foods in your home.
Write a list of activities you enjoy doing or would like
to try. Ask yourself… what activities have you enjoyed
and succeeded with in the past?
Use a calendar to schedule an appointment with
yourself 3X week. Too many times we make the
mistake of giving all of our time to family and others
while neglecting ourselves.
Welcome back to our St. Andrews members!
We are excited in the Catering Department to
see that so many of our members have returned
and we hope everyone had a wonderful summer.
To celebrate the start of our season a special
evening has been planned on Saturday,
November 12, namely The Governors Ball
presents an “Evening in Paris.” This black tie
preferred event, chaired by Barbara Golden,
promises to be an elegant evening and not to be
missed. If you are planning on attending, we
encourage you to make your reservations soon
as this event promises to sell out!
Linda Spielmann
Director of Catering
As you can see around the Club, our Club Improvement Plan is well
underway and we are excited to see the completion of our new
Promenade Room. Just a reminder that with the expansion of this
room we are now able to accommodate larger events and do hope
that you will consider St. Andrews when next seeking a venue.
As always, the Catering Department thanks you for your valued
business and looks forward to assisting you with that special event!
Find a friend who has similar goals, try a new exercise
class, or get a sitter on a regular basis.
Discuss easy cooking ideas for breakfast and snack
time. Try new and healthier versions in the Gallery or
at The Grille at Lakeside.
