Rule 55. The Village Health Commission shall from time t o time b y public
notification appoint premises within t h e area of t h e village to be the cattle m a r k e t .
56. The management and control of the cattle m a r k e t are hereby vested in t h e
person appointed from timo to time b y t h e Village Health Commission to be t h e
Inspector of the cattle market (hereinafter in t h e Rules referred to as " t h e
Inspector") subject to the instructions which h e m a y from time to time receive
from the Village Health Commission.

Rule 58. I n this chapter of these Rules the t e r m " cattle " means and includes
every animal included in the term " animal " of R u l e 3 of this Schedule.
Rule G8.—(1) All bread sold or exposed for sale within the village m u s t be
properly baked.
(2) All badly baked bread shall bo confiscated a n d be disposed of in such manner
as the Village Health Commission m a y direct.
(3) All bread exposed for sale shall bo k e p t in clean condition and protected
from flies or dust.

Laws, 1938 and 1944, the following Rules m a d e b y the Committee of the I rrigation
Division of Nata-Kholetria in the District of Paphos, are published in the Gazette.

2. I n these rules, unless the context otherwise requires—_
" Commissioner " means the Commissioner of the District of P a p h o s ;
" Committee " means the Committee of the I rrigation Division ;
" I rrigation Division" means the I rrigation Division of N a t a - K n o l e t o a ;

3. The Committee shall hold office for α period of three years beginning on the
12th December, 1944 Thereafter tho election of the Committee shall take place
every third year in the first week of tho m o n t h of December and it shall hold
office for a period of three years from the day next following its election.
4# (1) The Committee shall appoint a treasurer who shall collect the rates and
charges assessed u p o n the proprietors mentioned in the list.
(2) The treasurer shall, on the 1st N o v e m b e r in every year, prepare a statement
of all rates or charges still due a n d unpaid on t h a t date and shall forward such
statement to the Commissioner.
(3) The treasurer shall be u n p a i d : Provided t h a t ho shall be paid such of his
out of pocket expenses as m a y bo sanctioned b y the Committee.
(4) The treasurer shall bo appointed for such period as the Committee may fix
but in no case extending over the term of offico of the Committee appointing such
treasurer.
5. Every proprietor mentioned in the list shall pay a rate not exceeding twenty
shillings per a n n u m as m a y be prescribed by tho Committee from time to time for
every Government donum of land owned by such proprietor which is benefited or
is capable of being benefited by the works.
6. All rates assessed under tho provisons of tho Law and of these rules shall be
paid on or before the 1st November in every year.
7. The list shall be examined annually not later than tho 1st day of March in
every year b y the Committee who shall have power to amend same as in section 16 (6)
of the Law provided.
8. The annual estimates of the I rrigation Division shall bo submitted by the
Committee to the Commissioner for approval not later than tho 1st day of
March in every year.
9. The Committee shall from time to time authonzo the treasurer to pay out of
the money in his h a n d s any sum required—
(a) for the works or for the maintenance or repairs thereof ; and
(b) for any purpose approved by the Commissioner in connection with the
operations of the I rrigation Division provision for which is made in any
estimates approved by the Commissioner; and
(c) for any compensation payable under sections 31 and 33 of tho Law, whenever
there are funds at the disposal of tho treasurer or of tho Committee sufficient
to meet any a m o u n t payable as compensation under tho provisions of these
sections.
10. The Committee m a y from time to time appoint such person or persons as
m a y be required for the purpose of carrying out any work or for tho performance of
any duty under the provisions of the Law or of these rules, and fix tho remuneration
of such person or persons : Provided t h a t the person or persons appointed for carrying
out any work shall be first approved by the Commissioner.
11. During the months of March a n d April in evRry year, the Committee
shall cause the works to be properly cleared a n d repaired.
12.—(1) No person shall—
(a) enlarge or lessen the width of any branch or channel;
(6) open a new channel ;
(c) in any way interfere with the water or the works,
without the licence in writing of the Committee previously obtained and subject to
such terms and conditions as the Committee m a y impose and if any person to whom
such licence has been granted acts in contravention or fails or neglects to observe
the terms and conditions thereof, he shall be guilty of an offence against this rule.
(2) No licence shall be granted under this rule until after the expiration of ten
days from the posting in a conspicuous part of tho villages of Nata and Kholetria
of a notice of the intended licence so t h a t any objection to the grant thereof may
be made and considered by the Committee.
_ 13. E v e r y proprietor through whose lands there pass, a n y channels shall at all
times keep such p a r t of such channels as m a y pass through his lands, clean and free
from all obstructions whatsoever and if he fails to do so the Committee may cause
any obstructions to be removed from such p a r t of t h e channel and the cost therefor
shall be paid by the proprietor concerned m addition to the rate payable by such
proprietor under rule 5 without prejudice to a n y other liability of such person for
the breach of this rule.
·· 14.—(1) Every proprietor through whose lands there pass any branch channels
shall

repaired and cleared of obstructions _and the cost therefor shall be paid b y the
proprietors concerned in such proportion as the Committee m a y direct, in addition
to the rate payable by every such proprietor under rule 5.
- - 15. The Committeo shall distribute the w a t e r from time to time to every
proprietor in accordance with tho usage heretofore observed with regard to the
turn of irrigation and tho distribution of such water, due regard being also h a d to
the quantity of water available and to tho n u m b e r of donums of land to be
irrigated by each proprietor.
16. The Committee may with the consent of t h e Commissioner enter into any
agreement or arrangement with the Committee of any other Irrigation Division
formed under tho provisions of the Law with regard to any dams or channels which
are shared in common between tho Irrigation Division and such other Irrigation
Division, the maintenance thereof and tho proportion of a n y contribution for any
expenses incurred in connection therewith, to be paid b y the Irrigation Division.
17.—(1) Upon an application to tho Commissioner signed b y not less t h a n two.
thirds of the proprietors mentioned in the list requesting t h a t the Irrigation Division
be dissolved, the Commissioner shall call a meeting of the proprietors for the purpose
of determining whether tho Irrigation Division should be dissolved.
(2) Every meeting so convened shall be held in t h e presence of the Commissioner
at the time and place appointed and if a t such meeting a majority of two-thirds of
the proprietors or the authorized proxies thereof who are present decide t h a t the
Irrigation Division should be dissolved, tho Irrigation Division shall be so dissolved
,:
accordingly:
Provided that all rales duo and unpaid on the d a t e of dissolution shall be levied
and paid as if the Irrigation Division had not been dissolved.
(3) The provisions of sections 4, (5, 7, 8 and 9 of the Law with respect to public
meetings shall apply mutatis mutandis to a meeting convened under the provisions
of this rule.
(4) Any money in the hands of tho Committee or the treasurer at the time of the
dissolution of the Irrigation Division and any money recovered a t any time thereafter
on account of the rates due and unpaid at tho time of such dissolution, shall be paid
to the Commissioner and shall bo passed in tho books of the Commissioner to the
credit of tho villages of Nata and Kholetria and shall be utilized by the Commissioner for such purpose of public utility in the villages of N a t a a n d Kholetria as m a y
be approved by him.

T, the Governor in Council, in exercise of the powers conferred by
section 3 of the Minimum Wage Law, 1941, do hereby order as follows :—
1. This Order may be cited as the Minimum Wage (Cyprus Mines
Corporation) Order, 1945.
2. As from the 1st May, 1945, the minimum rates of wages to be
paid to persons employed in.the Colony by the Cyprus Mines Corporation,
as mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto shall be the rates
mentioned in the second column of such Schedule, based on the omcial
index on the cost of living on the aforementioned date :
Provided that nothing in this Order contained shall apply to.any
women or boys trained in the wool plant and trade school w i l l c Ά *™
maintained by the said Corporation in connection with its weiiare
activities, or to incapacitated men whom the Corporation continues to
employ on light labour,
