Each student needs to bring to class:

One-Block Wonder by Maxine Rosenthal
Look through this book to see the types of fabrics she suggests…..p.10-16
o Do not prewash fabrics
Buy at least 6 repeats, she suggests 4 ½ yds for a quilt up to a full sized quilt p.17
(remember this is the only fabric you need to buy until you decide on a border!)
Sewing machine in good working order—be sure to practice at home with it if it
is new to you and please bring your manual (just in case).
Sewing supplies: seam ripper, small scissors or snips, fresh machine needle
(80/12), pins
A quarter inch quilter’s foot –if you do not have one visit Budding Star to
purchase one to fit your machine. You will need to know if your machine takes a
slant, high or low shank foot. Another option is to bring in a foot from your
machine and we can match up a ¼ inch foot. Do this before our first class please.
45mm or 60 mm rotary cutter with a fresh blade
Mat (18x24 or 24 x 36)
Several rulers including one 24 inches long and if you have a 60 degree triangle
that is helpful (a ruler with 60 degree markings is the other option)
Flower head pins
a mess of fine pins (these will hold your hexagon halves together as you design so
they will be stay in the fabric for a while-so thin is best and ones you won’t need
soon is a good idea
a old flannel sheet or piece of fleece to use as a design wall, solid or most plain
helps
a kitchen tray, not huge but at least cookie sheet size-this will help us transport
our blocks from place to place and stay organized
if you like grips on your rulers you may want them for the triangle ruler inthis
project
We will cut and start putting our blocks together but a lot of your design decisions will be
done at home.
