MAKE THESE CORRECTIONS TO YOUR
MANUAL BEFORE YOU BEGIN ASSEMBLY.
1. Page 6, Tools and Test Equipment Required, list item 9: Change “Power supply 13 VDC nominal (1116V)...” to “Power supply 13.8 VDC nominal (11-15 V)...”
2. Page 11, Figure 8: Add this note to the figure: “The standoff may touch the toroid coil. That will not affect the
circuit performance. If you wish, you may adjust the position of the coil slightly to avoid contact.”
3. Page 13, Figure 10: Change the callout for the washer to read: “#4 lock washer, either inside tooth or split as
supplied with filter.”
4. Page 17, Last Step: Change “...five 4-40 3/16” (17 mm)...” to “...five 4-40 3/16” (4.8 mm)...”
5. Page 21, second step: Add the following sentence, “If the hole above the GROUND legend doesn’t line up
with the threaded ground stud, loosen the screws at the back of the side panel to provide room to adjust its
position.
6. Page 21, insert the following note between the second and third steps:
“If you have the KRX3 Subreceiver option, refer to your KRX3 Subreceiver manual, Auxiliary KRX3 Antenna
Input (Optional) and read through the material to determine if you want to install a jack at the AUX RF input
on the K3 rear panel. Of so, perform the last two steps on page 25 and all the steps on page 26 of the KRX3
manual. Note that since you don’t have a KANT3 or KAT3 board installed yet, the board won’t interfere with
the hardware on the BNC connector. When you install the KANT3 or KAT3 board, be sure to route the cable as
shown in Figure 28.”
7. Page 21, third step: Add the following sentence: “If you loosened the side panel screws in the previous step,
retighten them now.”
8. Page 24, first step: Add the following to the first sentence, “...as shown in Figure 29 using a zinc 4-40 1/4”
(6.4 mm) pan head screw and #4 inside tooth lock washer at each standoff.”
9. Page 28, second step: Delete the step and Figure 36 directly below it (the resistance check is no longer needed
due to a change in the board layout).
10. Page 34, insert the following note between the second and third steps:
“If you have the KRX3 Subreceiver option, turn to your KRX3 Subreceiver manual, and perform the steps on
pages 15 and to mount the auxiliary DSP board on the main DSP board.”
11. Page 34, last step, third sub-step: Add the following note below the step:
“Use a strong light to look in between the boards and ensure the two connectors are properly mated. Be
especially careful to check the connector near the dual potentiometers. Be sure the pins are entering the socket
and not resting alongside it.”
12. Page 35, insert the following before the last step:
If you installed the Auxiliary DSP board for the KRX3 subreceiver and R3 was positioned above
the main DSP board on its leads, look between the DSP boards and the front panel to verify that the
leads are not touching any terminals on either the aux DSP or front panel boards (See Figure 15 on
page 17 of the KRX3 manual). If necessary, unplug the DSP board assembly and adjust the position
of R3 to ensure the leads are clear of other solder pads before proceeding.
13. Page 40, Figure 56: Add this note: “Do not cut the leads shorter than absolutely necessary. See step above.”
14. Page 40: Replace the last step (including the two sub-steps) and Figure 56 with the following:
Locate the Temperature-Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) module. If you ordered the optional
1 ppm TCXO it will be supplied instead of the standard 5 ppm module. Both oscillator modules are
shown in the parts list in Appendix A.
Note the position of a small colored dot on the top of the module. It is sometimes faint and may be
hard to see without good light. The dot allows you to orient the module correctly in the socket.
Some modules have four pins while others have only three. If your module has three pins, the
missing pin is in the same corner as the painted dot.
If you have the optional 1 ppm module, it is supplied with a thin flat insulator that fits over the
pins to cover the bottom. Place the insulator over the pins. This insulator is not used on the
standard 5 ppm module.
15. Page 42: Delete the first step and Figure 59. Replace the step and figure with the page 4 of this errata.
16. Page 43: Delete the first step and Figure 61: Replace the step and figure with page 5 of this errata.
17. Page 47, first paragraph at the top of the page: In the second sentence, delete “The” – the first word in the
sentence.

Page 48, Figure 69: Near bottom of figure, change “(Part of K3 Kit Hardware)” to “(Part of KPA3 Kit Hardware)”
18. Page 49, First Paragraph: Second sentence, change to read “The rear section is slightly thicker...”
19. Page 57, Initial Power Checks, first step (bottom of the page): Change “...11-16 VDC power supply...” to
“...13.8 VDC nominal (11-15 V) power supply...”
20. Page 22, Figure 24: Add the following note to the figure:
Note: Due to design changes, L3 may not be present. (You may see clipped leads where it was removed.
That is normal.) Also, on some boards C6 and C5 may not be present.
21. Page A-3, KANT Antenna Input Module: Add the above note from Item 20 to the description for the module.
22. Page A-7, I.F. Crystal Filter Bag: Change the description of the lock washer to read “...#4 Inside Tooth or

CAUTION
In the following step it is easy to drop screws and lock washers into the K3. If this
happens, you must find and retrieve the hardware. Failing to do so may cause short
circuits and damage your K3 when power is applied.
Recommend you practice installing the KREF3 board without the screw and washers
first to acquaint yourself with the procedure for inserting it and fitting the connector
through the hole in the front panel shield. You’ll need to do this smoothly to avoid
dropping the hardware.
Install the KREF3 board on the back side of the front panel shield as shown in Figure 59. The board
plugs into J75 just behind the shield. Be certain you use a split lock washer between the KREF3
board and the PEM nut attached to the shield. An inside tooth washer may short out nearby circuit
traces.

CAUTION
In the following step it is easy to drop screws and lock washers into the K3. If this
happens, you must find and retrieve the hardware. Failing to do so may cause short
circuits and damage your K3 when power is applied.
Install the KSYN3 board on the back side of the front panel shield using the hardware exactly as
shown in Figure 61. This is most easily done as follows:
Place an inside tooth lock washer over each 1/4” (6.4 mm) pan head screw, then place the screw in
the hole in the KSYN3 board.
While holding the screws in place, add a split lock washer to each screw on the back side of the
board. Be sure you use split lock washers on the back of the board. Inside tooth lock washers
may short out nearby circuit traces.
Hold the board with the screws and washers in position by lightly pinching the corners of the
board with your thumbs over the screw heads and index fingers holding the split lock washers in
place on the back.
Position the board to mate P73 on with J73 on the RF board. Be sure you have the connectors
properly aligned and mate them fully so the screws line up with the PEM nuts on the front panel
shield.
Thread each screw into the PEM nut on the front panel shield. Be sure the split lock washer is still
in place between the board and the PEM nut.
