A Reflection from Deacon Will: How difficult it must be for our children, in fact for us, to understand what the essence of Love might be. You can’t watch four commercial breaks over the period of what may be considered a wholesome program without the reference to some type of behavior or enhancement that only a few years ago would be unfit. The bombardment is so subtle that most don’t realize what they just saw and since it’s on TV we just sit there like lumps as the commercial definition of love percolates into our minds and lives. Do you recall last week’s gospel? Christian love is not something we do on our own; we are able to love because of Christ into whom we are grafted (The Vine Dresser). The key? Simply that we have been chosen, this love is the fulfillment of our search for intimacy and belonging that is initiated and completed in Christ. Which brings us to today’s gospel. I’ve had the tendency to skip right into the “joy” part. “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy be complete.” Yea! It’s done. This is really easy everything is going to be just fine, after all Jesus said so. But wait a minute God what about my dear friend that just had cancer surgery and the doctor tells his wife that the surgery went very well although the disease was a little more than expected. And while we were in there, he continued, we found a couple spots on another organ that we couldn’t address today and will require more treatment. “Joy?” Where’s the joy? Where’s the happy part God? Jesus’ joy for us is complete when it calls forth from us as total selfsurrender as was his. This is what real life is about; giving without counting the cost. This gospel is full of little things to pick and choose but I beg you to hear all of them better yet to pray all of them. “…so also I love you” “…so my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete” “…love one another as I have loved you” “…lay down one’s life for one’s friends” “…you are my friends” “but I who chose you” and the commandment “Love One Another. I owe you a bit of an explanation about my friend and how joy works its way in even through the most difficult of times. While at the hospital with his wife and his five adult children after the doctor explained what was done and what was found emotions and tears stained the cheeks of all. His wife and I embraced, a tight long embrace, we cried and touched. No words spoken just love, just caring. We held hands and walked outside away from the kids she turned and said “thank you.” There is such a thing as Sacrament of Presence. Pray always. PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE ILL: Wayne Ardo, Ed Bieznieks, Sally Boyer, Laurie Bucar, Jim Cantelli, Cliff Cherni, Annette Cillian, Bill Csonka, George Edgar, Len Hosmer, Paul Kovary, Katarina Kekedy, Diane Lionti, Mary Ellen Martin, Brendan McMeechan, Linda Mulacek, Helen Nelson, Bill O’Brien, Mary Ann O’Brien, Dave Omerza, Lucy Pishnery, Martin Polomsky, John Rakoczy Sr., Bob Rasmussen, Evelyn Rowlands, Marilyn Segulin, Richard Stebnicki, John Strzalka, Liz Szuszkiewicz, Derek Turk, Ida Urbancic, and Terry Williford. Montana HB 479 would, as long as the mother consents, prohibit abortion of a preborn child that is 20 or more weeks without administering anesthesia for pain relief. The bill awaits the governor's signature. God has been very clear. Murder is forbidden even if man decides that the killing may be permitted when a drug is given to dull the pain of dismemberment. Sadly, this bill was offered by a "pro-life legislator" and has the support of most national pro-life groups including a prominent "Catholic" group. The good intentions of those in favor of the bill are irrelevant. The end result is late term killing of babies. This is a choice made by mere humans to ignore God's law. . A Nigerian Bishop has observed, "I believe there are three groups of people in this world: those who believe in God, those who do not believe in God, and those who think they are gods." Supporters of this bill would seem to fall into the last group. SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES: JEWELRY CAMP ALL DAY!!! Have FUN making different kinds of jewelry and learning new techniques – ALL DAY!!!
