That’s all there is to it… R E V I S E D S C H O O L C A L E N D A R : M AK E UP D A Y S D U E TO W E AT H E R/ P O W E R R E LA T E D S C H O O L C LO S U R ES Dear Parents, Due to the unusual number of days missed from school this year because a series of weather related closures, we have revised the school calendar to ensure that we maximize classroom teaching time and meet all standards for instructional hours. Each year our calendar is planned ensuring that we meet or exceed all required instructional hours. Further, additional days/hours are included in the event of inclement weather. Three additional days were included in the 2006-2007 school calendar; however, at this time we have closed school for ten days. The following is the make-up day schedule for the remainder of the school year: April 20 (Optional Conference Day) will be a regular school day. School will be extended for one week; the last day of school will be June 22 nd. After consultation with the staff, Field Day will be cancelled and replaced as an instructional day. (This provides instructional time while not requiring an additional day to be added to the calendar.) In the event of any future school closures this year, make up days will be added to Spring Break (April 9 – 13), beginning with Friday, April 13 and working backwards through the week. These schedule changes total the additional amount of instructional hours needed to meet state requirements; more importantly, they replace the same amount of teaching time lost due to weather related closures. We recognize that any changes to the school calendar will not be a 100% perfect fit for all families. While reviewing the options for making up instructional days, we chose the option that would result in the least possible disruption to our entire school community. As a strong advocate for family vacations being planned and taken during scheduled school vacations, we felt it would result in the least disruption to add days at the end of the school year. If your family has a scheduled vacation beginning on June 18th, please notify me via email at [email protected]. The weather conditions this school year have been challenging for all involved and we regret any scheduling difficulties these revisions may cause. We are committed to ensuring the full range of educational opportunities for your student during the 2006 – 2007 school year. Sincerely, Peg Johnston Principal
