Spring Scarf in Affinity Trellis Stitch Designed by Vandy Massey A quick spring knit that’s fun to make. It’s an easy repeat pattern which can be mastered by relatively inexperienced knitters. Materials Yarn: Rowan Panama 50g (100g if you want a longer scarf) Needles: 5mm Tension: 20 stitches x 20 rows = 10cm square (Alternative yarns – any cotton or linen based yarn will work. You don’t want anything with a high degree of stretch or your scarf will lose shape). Abbreviations k = knit; p= purl; k2tog = knit 2 stitches together; y = yarn forward to make a loop over the needle; k2togb = knit 2 together through back of stitich Scarf Cast on 31 stitches. This pattern can be widened by adding stitches. Seven extra stitches adds another half panel (see below) to the pattern. 1st row: p 2nd row: k2, *(y, k2togb) x3, k, (k2tog, y) x3, k, repeat from * to last st, k 3rd row: p 4th row: k2, *(k2tog, y) x3, k, (y, k2togb) x3, k, repeat from * to last st, k Chart for the above sequence: Pattern for every 2nd and 4th row (repeat) // y y // // y y // // y y // k k y \\ \\ y y \\ \\ y y \\ \\ y // = k2 tog y = yarn forward \\ = k2 tog through back of stitch Repeat these 4 rows until scarf is at a length to suit you. One 50g ball of Rowan Panama makes a 120cm long scarf. Cast off knitwise. Note: These needles are bigger than those recommended by the manufacturer, with the tension square knitted on fewer stitches.
