Pirro Stuart Speicher elective Description of Course Course Title: 9th Grade English, CP - # 109 Description: This course is developed to foster student literary skills by reading, analyzing, and responding in various ways to essays, drama, short and long fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Reading materials range from classic to contemporary literature, some required and some teacher selected pieces. Grammar, usage, and mechanics are reviewed and reinforced in addition to the introduction of new concepts. Skills in thinking, listening, speaking, and writing will be developed. Goals: Write a coherent five-paragraph essay containing transition elements and sentence variety and correct grammar Define and apply essential elements of fiction and non-fiction Follow the research process to complete a three to five page research paper on a teacher-selected topic. MLA guidelines will be followed.
