BIO II: Communicable Diseases Project
Diseases caused by Viruses, Bacteria, Protists, or Fungi
Imagine that you are an employee of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). It is your job
to create either a POWER POINT PRESENTATION that will educate the public on a disease
caused by a virus, bacteria, protist, or fungi. You may select your disease from the list provided
or you may choose one of your own; as long as you okay it with me. Remember, these diseases are
different from the genetic disorders and diseases we researched earlier. These diseases are
considered communicable diseases, which means that they can be spread from person to person
through various modes of transmission not linked to inheritance.
Your POWER POINT PRESENTATION needs to include the following researched
information:
1.
The Causative Agent: (Virus, Bacteria, Protist, or Fungi) Include the scientific name if the
agent is a Bacteria, Protist, or Fungi only!
2. What is the Mode of Transmission? : How does the disease spread?
3. What part of the body does the disease attack?
4. What are the Symptoms of this disease?
5. How can the disease be cured or treated?
6. What are the protective/preventative measures against the disease?
7. Include at least one image/picture of the disease-causing agent.
8. Discuss the impact the disease has on humans.
9. Give the location(s) of where the disease may have originated and where it is most
prevalent today. : Is the disease extinct, common, or rare?
10. Include any other information that you feel is either important or interesting to know.
