Franzen/Wilke: Students have begun using Math Mountain drawings to show partners of
numbers. Children were told a story about Tiny Tumblers who live on top of Math
Mountain. These Tiny Tumblers roll down the sides of Math Mountain for fun. Ask your child
to draw a Math Mountain for you. Dobbs: Math students have begun working with doubles and doubles plus one. Our new unit
will focus on the relationship between part and whole such as fractions. These ideas will then
be applied to money, telling time and circle graphs.
Laub: This week students are describing and exploring the characteristics of 3 D or solid
shapes. They are learning the names of these shapes and terms such as faces and vertices. After
discussing how many flat sides (faces) a box has and how these sides relate to each other,
students will construct their own boxes. Young poets are writing shape poems this week. Ask your child how some of
his/her poems are shaping up! We want to share some poetry with you! On
Friday, May 4th come to A K-1 team space before the American Concert. Save
your seat in the gym, then head down to A K-1 at 1:20 for a 20 minute poetry
presentation on the SmartBoard. K/1 All-School American Concert
