Failsafe protection against
electrocution
Every year, 1,000 people are injured by electric shock in Thailand, with 120 cases
resulting in death. Residual current devices (RCDs) into the consumer unit are the
ultimate solution to protect people from electrical risks.
How RCDs operate in electrical
installation
By measuring the intensity difference between
live and neutral conductors, RCD actually
detects the current flowing through the
human body.
If this current reaches the human body
withstand limit (30 mA), the RCD trips
within a few milliseconds, thus preventing
injury or death.
Thailand standard EIT 2001-51
In residential area or similar places, RCD (Residual Current Devices)
is mandatory for:
• Sockets or circuits located: in the bathroom, garage, kitchen, basements.
• Sockets installed within a 1.5 m range away from counter sink of
the kitchen or bathroom.
• All socket or circuits outdoor.
• Circuits for Jacuzzi, water heater...

Implementing RCD has never
been so easy

Simple and costeffective solution
Split bus versions of Square D EL come pre-equipped with RCD and its
connection. Only fitting and connecting MCBs as usual is left to be done.
Thanks to the SquareD EL split bus, only circuits really requiring protection from
direct contacts are connected to the RCD. If the RCD trips, all the other circuits,
especially lighting circuits, remain on.

Following IEC 60364 international standard, Schneider Electric recommends RCD for:
• All socket outlets with a rating not in excess of 20 A, that are for ordinary persons
and intended for general use.
• Mobile equipment with a current rating not exceeding 32 A for outdoors use.
• All equipment located in rooms containing a bath or a shower.

Easy diagnosis when
the circuit-breaker trips
LED marker light
SquareD EL can be fitted with LED marker light.
In the event of a general power supply failure,
the consumer unit remains illuminated for
20 minutes.
Note:
Marker light is powered by a supercapacitor
continuously recharged: no battery or accumulator
needed.
LED Marker light is NOT Compatible with enclosure
equipped with QOvs RCBO 1P (pig-tail).
It can therefore easily be accessed to restore
the electrical installation to normal operation.
