Grade 7
Instruction in seventh grade advance students to the pronunciation and
intonation patterns, elaborated grammatical structures and vocabulary of
the Spanish language, developing listening, speaking, reading, and
writing skills. The goal is to make the modern foreign language
available to all students. The course is communication-based,
developing the skills necessary to produce and receive understandable
messages.
Catholic prayers and traditions (primary religion in Spanish speaking
countries) are incorporated wherever possible in keeping with the
religious nature of this school.
Textbook:
“A plena vista”; Symtalk (Book F) ISBM 1-9332209-74-7.
1st Quarter:
1) Prayer. La seῆal de la Cruz (In the name of the Father…).
2) General review: alphabet, salutations, numbers, dates, weather.
3) Conjugate in the present indicative and use in the correct context:
a)Regular –ar, -er, -ir verbs.
b)irregular en stem changing verbs such: ser/estar, saber/conocer,
ir, dar, ver, tener, venir, decir, hacer, poner, traer, salir.
4)Execute the proper gender/number agreement and position of the
following with the modified noun:
a) definite articles.
b) indefinite articles.
c) adjectives of description.
d) adjectives of nationality.
e) possessive adjectives.
f) demonstrative adjectives.
4) Grammar: present tense verb “Ser” (to be/to have); present tense of
verbs ending –ar.
5) Bingo. Vocabulary level 1 and 2.
6) Cultural notes.
2nd Quarter:
1)Prayer.
2)Present tense forms of Ir (to go), dar (to give) and estar (to feel, to
be); health expressions; contractions “al” and “del”.
3) Form the two contractions (al and del) and correctly utilize them in
the present indicative .
4)Using preposition “de” to express possession.
5) Preposition “a” as the personal “a”.
6) Introduce and utilize simple pronouns in the present indicative.
7) Correctly utilize idiomatic expressions with the verbs “hacer” y
“tener”.
3)Vocabulary for living and eating with the family; vocabulary for
classrooms activities; useful expressions for living in the city.
Spanish speaking countries and their capitals.
4)Cultural note. La Navidad (Christmas) in Hispanic/Latino
countries.
3rd Quarter:
1)Prayer: el Padrenuestro (Our Father).
2)Utilize the following constructions in the present indicative:
a) Tener + que + infinitive.
b) Ir + a + infinitive.
3)Bingo. Vocabulary level 1 and 2.
4)Cultural notes: El Día de San Valentín (Valentine Day).
4th Quarter:
1)Prayer: Padrenuestro.
2)Family relationships.
3)Form interrogative sentences using inversion and question words in
present indicative.
4)Form negative sentences in the present indicative (double negative).
5) Correctly distinguish and utilize the appropriate formal and
familiar form of address according to the relationship of the
individuals (cultural point).
4)Cultural note: Semana Santa (Holy Week).
Fridays: Quiz using notes taken in class (review of the week);
dictation and translation (for grade); movie in Spanish (age
appropriate cartoons) with subtitles (for grade).
Tests: Specific quizzes, midterm and final exams, not notes allowed.
Class Behavior:
Students are not allowed to talk in class if not asked by the teacher.

About the teacher:
My name is Maria Ronda (Villalba Moreno) Null and I live in Ohio. I
am, originally, from Madrid (Spain), moved to US in 1993, and
became American citizen on March of 2000.
I am married and have two sons, currently, attending colleges in
Ohio.
I graduated with bachelor and master degree in Mass Communication
and Journalism for the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, 1986. I
worked in the city as newscaster, firstly, and editor of a magazine and
radio program for seven years.
After relocating in US, I taught Spanish in Marshall University
(2000-2008) and, currently, Saint Joseph Catholic School, since 2008.
My hobbies are traveling American and European countries; reading
English and Spanish literature; spend time with family.
