You have been given a provisional placement in a course at the Colegio de España. This is usually for one of two reasons:
1. You are a Baruch College student who has one or more Spanish language courses on your transcript. According to
Baruch College policy, students must enroll in the next course in the sequence. For example, if you have SPA
1001 on your transcript, you must enroll in a class that is at least the equivalent of SPA 1002 to earn credit.
However, your score on the placement test was not high enough to approve you to enroll in the required course.
2. You are a student attending another CUNY College, and your home College has approved you to earn credit for a
Baruch course that requires a higher proficiency that you demonstrated on the placement test.
In both cases, you would not earn Spanish language credit if you were to enroll in the course you were placed in on the
basis of the results of the placement test. However, we are offering you an opportunity to earn the credit you need, but it
will require a commitment on your part.
You will be approved to attend the Salamanca program under the following conditions:

You agree to study on your own between now and the beginning of the course at the Colegio de España to review
Spanish and bring your proficiency up to the level corresponding to the college-level course you have completed.

You agree to undergo a second placement test, to be administered by the Colegio de España at the beginning of
the course.
Please read, sign and date the following statement of responsibilities, and return it to the Baruch Study Abroad Office:
I acknowledge that I have been provisionally placed in the Baruch course SPA _______, because the results of the
placement test administered by the Baruch Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature were not
sufficient for me to receive an unconditional placement. I hereby agree to review on my own between now and the first
day of classes of the Colegio de España the Spanish I have taken in the past. I agree further that I will be given a second
placement test the first day of classes. If I score high enough on the placement test to be placed in the required course
level, my provisional placement will become an unconditional placement, and I will complete the course and, upon
successful completion, will earn the credit for the Baruch course listed on the Language Placement Form.
I agree further that, if I do NOT score high enough on the placement test to be placed in the level of the course I am
required to take, I will be placed in the lower level, and will be allowed to complete the course. I understand that, if I
complete this course successfully, I will receive a certificate from the Colegio de España but I will NOT receive Baruch
credit for this course.
I acknowledge that I will not be entitled to a refund of any tuition or fees I have paid to the Colegio de España.
